That's a great thread Susie! I also like the food glossary here. I'm such a dork I actually copied it and pasted it to a doc on my desktop and I add to it when I find something new. I have also made some notations about where the best places are to find certain things. I plan to print it out with the latest restaurant list closer to our visit.

Pizza

Okay, you guys are all talking good Mexican food. We are leaving this Thursday, and the one thing we love about Playa is the international flavor. We love a good wood-fire pizza. Is there a restaurant in Playa that offers excellent Italian food, if not pizza?

We really liked the pizza at Rolandi's. Haven't tried anything else but heard good things. For good Italian food we go to Casa Mediterranea.

Welcome to Rolandi.com

la PUMARROLA

you will find just what you are looking for at 40th Street and Flamingo at La Pumarrola. Fine oven baked pizza and excellent pasta. You will feel like you are in Italy.

Is la pummarola the place that used to bake the fantastic bread? If so, can you still buy a loaf for take out?

Try La Famiglia at Av 10 entre 10 y 12. Really good pizza and pasta. Also the best caprese I ever had in Playa

Went to Pumarolla two nights ago and we are going again tomorrow night! Incredible place, and it is not on the list, or is it?
Thanks for the info, we are having a wonderful time. We let the owner have a taste of wine we had brought from the states, a Toad Hollow Merlot, and he comped us a plate of meatballs and lasagne and a plate of of Bruschetta! We are bringing him his own bottle tomorrow!
We are only frequenting places on your list and our stay has been wonderful. We don't want to leave!

I want to thank you for your work on your restaurant list. With only so many days and a stomach only so big, we read everything and made a stab at the list. The following is our report:
Las Parillas has plummeted in quality with the addition of their new two-story addition and "stainless steel" kitchen. My favorite dish was bland and undercooked. It was a fun place but that has changed with the expansion.
La Pumarrola was the place for dinner, we went there three nights out of eight. Incredible bread, pasta, Calzones, and Pizza. A little pricy, but sharing everything helps the cost. We brought a bottle of wine to Donatello and we received a bottle of homemade Limoncello in return. Everyone recieves a complimentary plate of something. The first night it was Bruchetta, the second Meatballs and bread, the third, Italian Sausage wrapped in Pizza dough. Absolutely incredible, hopefully he will be there next year. This place is like old Playa, end of a dirt road, beautiful moon, need I say more?
Yaxche was absolutely suburb, even with a large wedding party in progress, we got a table in a beautiful corner of the patio, the service was fantastic, and the food incredible.
Petite Marrakesh was very good, but the cook is definately proud of himself. The restaurant is across from Sur (the steakhouse) and a few shops from the corner so it was not crowded and this hurts the atmosphere.
Mamitas Beach was always crowded so we went to Kool next door. For 70 pesos the padded white lounge chairs were worth the money. The food is fantastic and the facilities are better than Mamitas. It rained one day so we went to Mamitas to eat and still thought Kool's food was much better.
Pesca was very good, however we got the Seafood Platter and thought it a bit greasy. We probably would not go back there.
Anyway, our stay was incredible, we love Playa (even though it growing too fast), and we will be back next year.
Peace - Dave

we printed out your list and took it along on our recent trip. Mostly we agreed with your favorites and we realized many were "off the beaten Path" so we ventured out. We loved Tango Taco and was hoping to have enough time to go there a 2nd time, but it didn't happen. We liked Babe's very much, too. Someone told us the food depended upon who was cooking, but we must have hit it right because it was excellent. We ate at La Parilla and it was fun, but I didn't think the food was that good. We also ate at Ajua! again as it was so much fun last time. It was on Sunday and we ate early so the food was OK, but there wasn't much fun happening there which was disappointing. We ate shrimp tacos off the carts on Juarez & 5th and they were "to die for".............we were a bit nervous about eating from these carts but when we saw one of the restaurants roll out a fresh cart for the afternoon crowd, we followed it up the street and ordered. It became a ritual for us and we enjoyed the food very much. We ate excellent enchiladas at Hot Baking Co. on a friends recommendation and would definitely go back there, too. Just too many restaurants and not enough time.......................
