Moving to Vegas - - Inspire Me!!!
Got the call yesterday that my transfer has come through. I start in my new court in Las Vegas on January 21. I'm having a major panic attack now....kind of like the night before your wedding when you panic and wonder if you are doing the right thing???
Need some stories of inspiration about moves and major life changes. We have a couple interested in the house so we will be talking to them Wednesday and if they are hesitant, we will be listing with a realtor Wednesday. Couldn't sell the house until we knew for sure when I was getting the transfer. The realtor keeps telling us he has more buyers for waterfront than he has waterfront to sell them so I'm hoping he can produce a buyer quickly. In the meantime, Jeff will be staying in WA State until the house sells and I will be living out of my car like some street person in Vegas.....Holy Cr*p.....what have I done?????? |

I loved living in Vegas, and Have had severl of those"life" moves. Mostly from my husbands job. The market there is great to buy right now. I'd look in the Northwest Valley around loop 217 and Centenial Pkway North. Lots of growth up there , new shops, Malls, housing, schools. Away from most of the gaming, tho you can play the slots at most any gas station. That area is 20 Minutes from Mt Charelston, you feel like you are in the rockes up there. Our homes was on the slope and had an unobstructed view of the strip and the mountains that surrounds the Valley. 15 to 20 Min to downtown.

Thanks! We are going to buy in St George (a whole 'nother story) but I will be staying in Vegas during the week. Will get a small studio apt or share. Will drive home on Friday nights and come back into town on Monday mornings. This is the plan anyway until I can retire in 2014. I figure the first couple weeks will be just looking at areas to see what seems kind of safe for housing. I have a friend that works there already so I will be sleeping on her floor for a couple weeks. Hopefully Jeff will be able to move down soon after me,
I'm just getting a little old to be doing this gypsy living out of boxes lifestyle. I figure I have one more of these kinds of changes left in me ![]()

Utah has sales tax on food. Nevada doesn't. St George's golf is cheaper and it's closer to Bryce & Zion. Other than that, I've got nothing.
My dad lives in Laughlin, so I am going to be passing through Las Vegas next March when I visit him. |

75% of Vegas is new. As long as you are away from the hood, down town and the strip, you'll be ok. South Vegas is new, Green Valley is nice and safe. Summerlin is nice, the northwest is nice too. so is the new North Vegas. Stay away from the East side, North las Vegas and the Down town area. Forclosures are thru the roof here, so you shouldn't have any problems getting a good deal. You can book a hotel room for 125 bucks a week at the Silverton or one of the old Station hotels (not that many hookers around).
I'm not sure you'll like Vegas coming from the beautiful PNW. But there's plenty of cool places around. Boulder city is a very cool town if you can afford it. Moving here from Calif was a good move from me. Cheap real estate, better paying jobs, cheaper cost of living, no state tax. But I miss the beach and the beautiful green Calif. We do have many of cool places around though. The lake and the river to the East, Red Rock to the West, Mount Charleston to the north...Utah's a a beautiful state. I love mormon ladies, they are very sharing ![]() Congrats and hope you like it. Btw, I know a woman who went back to Seatle who's losing her house in Henderson. You might want to check out her place. I think she's letting it go cheaper than she got it for with a newly built swimming pool and a decent vew of the smog hanging over my house. Good luck to ya. |

One of my best friends was just here...She lives there and hates it. She hates the people, the waitresses, the bums, and the teamsters. She also said the water is undrinkable and the streets are dirty. If it weren't for the good money and benifits she is making, she would leave in a heartbeat. But that's just her opinion. She also said it is not a gay friendly town.

Hey Eileen!!!
Congratulations on your transfer.Elvis posted some good info My brother has lived in Vegas for 27 years. He was in the Air Force when he moved there and when he retired, he made Vegas his permanent home. He bought a house in the Northwest part of the city. This area is very clean, and there are some very nice neighborhoods. . He's lived there so long that he isn't interested in going to the casinos. Well, he never has been a big gambler. I'll go visit you when I go see my brother. ![]()

My father-in-law used to live in the northwestern section of Las Vegas. He worked at the Texas Casino. He loved it there.
So, Xqqzme, you have a nice comfy couch for when I come down to St. George to golf and ride my mountain bike, right? (I kid you because I like you.)
