Kev,

There are no specific activities for kids that age. They are obviously too old to go to the kids club, so they would just partake in whatever adult activities they were interested in. This could be ping pong, tennis, basketball, mini golf, archery, volleyball (beach and pool), water polo, water aerobics, bingo, spanish lessons, dance lessons - and the list goes on and on and on..........
There is a daily activity board with what's going on that they can follow as well.

There is a pitch and putt course, and it's just "OK", and no additional cost. I can't imagine it would be worth lugging your own clubs to MX for this, Lordy no! It's 4 holes and just one tee area, set in a fan shape. If you planned to golf elsewhere off the resort, then maybe. There is a 9 hole course in the town next to the Barcelo, Puerto Aventuras and that would be the closest place to play "real" golf. They do have clubs for you to use at the pitch and putt, not sure the quality but they have them. If anything, bring your own golf balls as for the mini golf and the pitch and putt, if you lose the ball they give you, you do have to pay $2.00 for it.

Here is a picture of the pitch and putt (thanks Trekker!):
