Mexico City claims the worlds largest Ice Skating Rink !

Ice skating ranks low on the list of sports in Mexico, somewhere far below bull fighting and slightly above croquet. So it was with some bemusement, wonder and trepidation that residents of this capital flocked this month to an enormous ice rink that Mayor Marcelo Ebrard has constructed in the historic central square.

Where once Aztecs sacrificed to their gods and Spanish viceroys ruled New Spain, thousands of people unused to cold climes tried desperately to experience the swish, glide and flying sensation of skating without falling down. Many failed.

That is really neat!!!

One of the most wonderful things I have ever seen is a group of young Japanese girls get off the bus at the ski hill & walk on snow for the first time. They weren't sure what to do....their laughter still rings in my ears! It was very cool!

My brother-in-law went to take a look. Apart from being so busy you had to wait for hours, the skaters were more dangerous than driving on the road, so he gave it a miss after the sight of too many collisions!

Maybe if Playa ever builds a rink we can have a hockey game at Peepfest!

Of course, a lot of us (and our wives) go to Playa to get away from the ice (and hockey)!
