Hello from Montana
Headed for Playa for first time in Feb. Been learning from this Forum for the past six months. Very helpfull as I am too much of a planner. Been to Isla Mujeres and loved it and Puerto Vallarta in the past. We're planning on booking the Chichen Itza and the Tulum & Beyond tours to get to know the area. Is this overkill or will it give us a good idea of the culture and places we would like to see more of? Hope to do a lot of snorkeling and sounds like Akumul is a great place and relatively easy to get to? Thanks again for all the info, getting excited to hit the water and enjoy the culture!

You need to start a new thread in the "General" Forum area with your subject. This is the "Introductions" area. ![]() Also....have you seen the Tulum Info forum? It will help you with your Tulum questions. |

Hello from Montana 2
I was in PDC two yrs ago and went on the Tulum and Beyond tour. It was a lot of fun, especially since it was a small group. Be sure to have pesos and such for tipping at the places you'll visit.

Haven't seen the Rio concert footage, still trying to watch all the extras in the Four Flicks Videos. I guess I haven't been looking lately as I usually pickup all the Stones info. I did miss the Missoula concert but have seen them in Minneapolis and Fargo. Music keeps getting better and age still hasn't slowed down their stage presence. Going to be in PDC for 7 full days plus travel time so think we can afford 2 days of tours and still have plenty of time for beach, snorkeling and exploring which some of that is included in tours. Have thought about renting mopeds or scooters to explore the actual town of PDC but the little I've seen about rentals on internet doesn't realy think its a great idea. Wouldn't go on the highway just side streets etc. Did this in Isla Mujeres and really worked quite well. Any suggestions on this idea? |

Hola Stonesfan...
I've been to Playa many times and over to Isla Mujeres a few times. There's quite a difference in traffic/congestion. I would not even think of driving/riding on a moped or scooter in Playa. The side streets are mostly nuts! As you said....forget the highway. We walk everywhere in Playa....probably a lot more than most but we love to walk and we get to see so much that way. Taxis are cheap if you get tired (or lost..hehe). We travel up and down the highway on colectivos south to Akamul and Tulum and north to Cancun. Public transport is so easy and there is so much to see. Do you have any of Laura Mapchick's maps? They're great to get prior to your trip...better than a guide book and give you all the ways to travel on public transit and show you where the cenotes etc are. I, personally, would not do both Tulum and Chichen Itza in one week. Chichen is a very long trip and is just a lot more of what is in Tulum. Tulum is, to me, the most beautiful of all the ruins because of its location on that beautiful blue sea. The Tulum and Beyond tour with Yucatreks is wonderful. I think it's important in Playa to allow yourself lots of time to just wander and do whatever. Wander the beach in the daytime and the streets and restaurants/bars in the evenings. Always an adventure! |
