We have been traveling to Playa since '94 and have been staying at the Gran Porto Real ever year for seven or eight days since it opened.
This year, because of finances, we have decided to rent a Playa del Sol condo next to the Reef Club in Playacar. Has anyone either stayed at the Playa del Sol condos or used the Reef Club accomodations? The condos look great, but how is the Reef Club? I guess it costs $40 a day for AI privledges at the club, is it worth it? All feedback would be great! Thanks! Going for 10 days starting April 10th. Can't wait. |

No, I don't think so. The food is so so and the drinks about the same. When I asked for wine it came out of a tap. Wine on tap is not really tasty. Check out some of the other AI's in the area and see what their daily rates are but don't waste your money at the Reef Club.

We have stayed at Paseo del Sol (new condo complex directly across from the Reef Club) several times over the past two years. The Reef Club is okay and the AI fee only applies from either 8-6 or 6pm to 2 am so it really ends up being $80/person/day! The Reef is a 3+ resort and the meals are average the snack bar is good but busy. The resort is very small and the beach had still not recovered from the huricane damage two years ago (we last stayed March 2007 so it may be better now). We have few issues with the resort the bathrooms are clean and if you tip the service is great! You can get access to the beach for free with your condo card but cannot buy a drink or food just use the beach! We have found that we walk or taxi $5 to Coco Beach area and rent a chair/cabana at one of the beach clubs you end up with beach chair side waiter service with less cost and it is a bit of an adventure Mamitas is a good place but check around they are all pretty good and have clean facilities (although it is Mexico so some don't) bucket of beer and food! We seem to meet lots of people and enjoy the beach for walking etc (much longer and better than in Playacar).
Hope it helps enjoy! |

We stayed at the Chac Ha condos, directly across from the Reef last January. Quite a walk into Playa. The Reef was okay, our kids did the all inclusive for $40 two afternoons. Food was basic, so were the drinks. Through our condo we had access to the Reef's beach and pools. The beach was non existant last year at this time. Don't go by the Reef's beach photos, check beach status before you go.
