My offensive avatar.

I received a PM about the avatar I've been using for the past couple of weeks. The PM'r was upset about it and alluded to the fact that I possibly hate my state (New York) and that it was disrespectful. Here was my reply:

"No one has complained about it except you. I put it up about once a year to remind people, because I think we should never forget. You aren't the only one who volunteered amigo. Sorry it offends you. I'm offended by the bastards who did it. My regular avatar will replace it soon. People need to be reminded. Do you always jump to conclusions?

I find that image every bit as shocking and disturbing today as I did when I saw it happen. And that's a good thing.

I don't find it offensive......It is a reminder to me of the innocent lives lost & at the same time the power of hate.

I actually thought it was a good avatar.

At least my Bush avatars gets rave reviews (even if they're too chicken to say so in the open)

I agree as well.
Watching the smoke pouring from those towers is forever blazened in my brain.
In fact (and don't hate me) I find the photo a hauntingly beautiful shot of a very horrific day.

I don't see anything wrong with it, either. I don't mean this morbidly, but it's like a grave site. I would continue to visit my loved ones no matter what. I would NEVER choose to forget them!

I don't find your avatar offensive and/or disrespectful especially if your location indicates New York. The image is a very painful reminder of an unforgettable day in U.S. history.

It doesn't "offend" me, but I don't much enjoy looking at it. I will never feel the need to be reminded - because I won't ever forget. But you have every right to put that picture up there, and I don't think you should take it down if you don't want to.

i think we quickly forget sometimes these things and i do think something like your avatar just helps to recall and think about it....as long as you are coming from that i have no prob with it...thanks for the reminder of all that was lost...
