Better safe than sorry..
after all, you have to carry money correct? So adding a little ID with the money is no biggie, then you aren't turned away.
Unless you aren't 18, then I would just try and see if that's what I wanted to do, play innocent 'I left it at the hotel' and pretend you're going to get it.... I have never gotten away with that [not that I would have tried ]...I even got turned away going to see R rated movies with younger friends...everyone but me would get in ! Nowadays, I get carded only occasionally while stocking up on my wine to survive my 3 tornados at home. Sigh. |

Perhaps "bashing" is a bit too harsh of a term in this instance, but when I see a reply that is off topic from the original poster's question and which gets into "commenting" in a negative fashion on the USA's policies or laws, then yeah... I consider that to be tending toward "bashing". I haven't said whether or not I agree with Canard's statements or yours, James. I was merely stating that this was not the thread for it. An 18-year-old want to know whether or not to carry his ID in Playa and he gets a negative soapbox statement concerning the drinking age laws of his home country. Yeah.... that IMHO crossed the line into USA bashing. Unwarranted and unnecessary. |

It's age 18 in Mexico.
But not enforced much by the sounds of it. We were with my two cousins who are 17 and 18 a couple of weeks ago and they were drinking all week and were never carded....of course their parents were there as well, so that could be another reason why too.

You shouldn't have to worry about getting carded most places in Playa, but it probably couldn't hurt to have it with you. It will likely be less of a hassle carrying it along with your money than having to go back to your hotel to retrieve it. I've been drinking Cancun and Playa since I was 15 and have never been carded personally, but have seen friends of mine get carded. It doesn't happen often, but depending on the night, the moon, the mood, etc. it might happen.
