Open Sesame, City Club!

It's the rival to Sam's Club, that's what it is. It's big, bright, shiny and clean.

But where is this Alladin's Cave of bulk purchases? It's at Centro Maya on the 307 highway at the South end of Playa.

Join the club, take ID etc, pay your fee, get your card with a chronic picture of yourself.

Gotta say I wasn't bowled over by it. Selection seemed spotty and nothing that looked like I couldn't get it at one of the other stores. Personally, I'da preferred a Costco, but, oh well...

Rob and the kids went today. It's OK. Bigger than Sam's. Different products. We'll see.

Long ago I heard it would be a smaller fee and smaller packaging - true now that the reality is here?

We really can't buy much at Sam's as the bulk packaging is too big for two.

Ours was a flying visit.

But I did manage to pick up a Mexican bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon - to be tested, and a fresh offering of a bacon, peppers, cheese and pasta creation from the chill display at the back - it was quite acceptable.

The fresh veg looked much better than Sams.

How much is the membership?

With Sam's, I used to share my membership with a friend: she paid me half the fee and I issued under her name the extra card I was entitled to. Sam's didn't have a problem with that.

If that is possible with City Club, is anybody interested on doing that?

it's 250 pesos and you do get two cards and the second card can be in another name...at least when they were pre-selling the memberships.
I assume they are still doing it.

Thanks Rick.

Is cheaper than Sam's.

Anyway, if you don't need the two cards, I could pay you 125 pesos for one of them, if you can change it under my name. Let me know if you are interested.

I haven't been there yet, Luis, but if no one takes you up on your offer, I will. We can visit and sign up together if you like.

Sorry, Luis... my name's on the other one. Looks like you've already got another partner though!

I think it's 25 pesos more for a 'partner's' card.

Although for us, they put both our names on one card and took a picture of both of us together... , ho hum.

Well that's all your luck used up for this year.

World peace will have to wait.
