Get the 800 number from your local operator and you will reach a canadian operator from the payphones there. You then have options to bill to your calling card or call collect. I don't know where in Canada you are....for us in the West it's Telus. But the 800 number is Canada wide.

Do NOT call from your hotel room! And the phone cards are too complicated and a pain in the neck. Go to an internet cafe on 5th or 10th somewhere and use their phones. Inexpensive, easy... best way to go.

I too use the internet cafes but only because I am blonde or maybe had a few too many margaritas and don't remember the 800#. If you are phoning home to Canada, this is the cheapest way possible tho. When you call the 800#,you are billed by your local phone company whatever your plan is. So if you are paying 3¢ a minute for long distance....then that is what you pay. I believe this only applies to canada. (I worked there for 25 yrs. you'd think I'd know this number by heart!!)
