You can see part of the "botanas" at Eladio's in this post: http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...2-post163.html

the pics with the orangish table are Eladio's, and I didn't put all the dishes we were served.

You can have a nice mini buffet meal for the price of a couple of drinks.

Sorry for making you dizzy, my fault, as Thor correctly wrote, that one was the "Tourist tree" because it peels like a burned tourist at the beach.

I had a chance to see a matapalo that had indeed killed his host tree, and I even got inside the emptied space. It was near Bonampak, a place you should visit next.

Inside

Bonampak, real frescoes still visible

I do want to visit Bonampak. I don't know when we will go back to Chiapas, but going to Bonampak is high on our list of places to visit.

Really worth the trip, it's a very nicely kept road with almost no potholes and few traffic to get there.

To make it a full day, go to Frontera Corozal less than 30 min ride. After that is one hour by boat to get to Yaxchilan, you will feel like in an Indiana Jones adventure, sans the dangers and enemies.

Sol, you have to go to Chiapas again, visit Bonampak and Yaxchilan...

...but also you have to go back to Calakmul, they found some amazing murals.

they are closed to the public for their protection, but in the site museum they made some excellent replicas

and also found a huge frieze (20 meters long) inside the tallest pyramid (also off limits, but there is a life-size reproduction at the museum)
