We did both of these Cenotes, and yes, they are both beautiful. Although i did find out that i am not a huge fan of swimming with a lot of catfish nibbling at your toes

You can read about these 2 cenotes, and our thoughts on them in my link to our trip report
Hey thats Donnas snaky thing I took that picture one day at Cristalino! and a few others!

Cristolino
Azul
El Eden are all next to each other so to speak!
Manatee is at Casa Coneto
Gran is on the road to coba as well as car wash

What is Hidden World... a tour? Didn't see anything on the site.

Dude, Gran Cenote is about 45 mins from Playa. When I went last year it cost $10 US for two to get in. They only allowed us to take in 1 beer each. It was nice but we liked Cristalino better. We took a cooler in and it cost 80 pesos for the whole family.

Hidden Worlds is a business that offers tours of Dos Ojos cenote and some other tours. We went a couple of years ago and it was great.

Don't remember what it was called, but it was fun jumping off the sides and there was hardly anyone there. Here's a pic.

Has anyone ever done a GPS plot of these, or put them on Google Earth? It'd sure help finding them!

Thanks,

Jim

You can find them on Google Earth. Find the Barcelo Resort and the Cenotes Azul and Cristalino are directly across the highway. Gran Cenote is west of Tulum. Mine come up on Google Earth with a blue dot. You can click on the dot for photos. I'm sure you can find more too!

my favorite hang out, but from what I read on LocoGringo, algae growth has been pretty bad since hurricane Dean....... maybe someone can report on this since Casa cenote is open again

Gran Cenote is probably nicer but a much longer cab ride
We spent last Saturday at Cenote Azul and had a great time. This cenote is just 20 minutes south of Playa and very family friendly. I posted pictures from our day here on my blog.

I think the closest one worth visiting would be Chaak Tun. It's located on Juarez Avenue, about 4-5 kms from the highway. You just keep going West (opposite to the beach) on Juarez. You'll pass a security gate, just say you are going to El Cenote. From there is still 2 or 3 more kms.

It's a nice underground cenote, inside a cave with nice stalactites and stalagmites, nice vegetation, and I've even seen a monkey sometimes.

Best time to go is after 11 AM, after the Jeep and Cenote tour (or whatever the name of that tour is) leaves.
I have to agree here. Chaak Tun is your best choice CLOSE to Playa.
