If you had to pick one cenote close to PDC?

Which cenote is closest to PDC and worth going to? We would like to go to one by taxi but don't want too far a drive. If you can recommend one, what is the cost and is there any place there to store personal property.

I think Tommy is the expert on cenotes but I would say Gran Cenote.
Do not remember cost and there was no lockers etc.

Cenote Azul is very close to town (easy cab ride) and very pretty
...I'd go on any day but Sunday to avoid crowds

Gran Cenote is probably nicer but a much longer cab ride

Azul is very cool since you have all the cichlids and catfish, it's like swimming in an aquarium.... but I prefer Cristallino for the cliff dive........ best suggestion, do both of these cenotes, it's only a short walk between the two. I believe Cristallino has the blue snakey thing swimming down in the cave mouth.... pretty freaky creature and I've never been able to find out what it really is

What's the name of the cenote where you pay a fee to a guy and then wander down a somewhat rocky trail to get to? It's the one with the relatively short cliff with a ladder off to the left (south?). Isn't that one off of 307 and relatively close to Playa?

Ya mean this thing

We did both of these Cenotes, and yes, they are both beautiful. Although i did find out that i am not a huge fan of swimming with a lot of catfish nibbling at your toes

You can read about these 2 cenotes, and our thoughts on them in my link to our trip report

Sounds like Azul to me maybe.

We liked El Eden. It's bigger than Azul, has a cliff to dive, places to sit, and there is another cenote (El Jardin) nearby (no swimming but lots of birds).

Redhairgirl: looks like a common eel to me... So I agree with Rissa on that one (not on the: not go into the water-part though).

OK, there goes another of my Playa secrets

I think the closest one worth visiting would be Chaak Tun. It's located on Juarez Avenue, about 4-5 kms from the highway. You just keep going West (opposite to the beach) on Juarez. You'll pass a security gate, just say you are going to El Cenote. From there is still 2 or 3 more kms.

It's a nice underground cenote, inside a cave with nice stalactites and stalagmites, nice vegetation, and I've even seen a monkey sometimes.

Best time to go is after 11 AM, after the Jeep and Cenote tour (or whatever the name of that tour is) leaves.

Hidden world is one we have been to. It is neat as you climb down a ladder in what is a hole in the ground and find yourself in a huge cavern . Great snorkleing.

What is Hidden World... a tour? Didn't see anything on the site.

Thanks,

Manatee cenote on Tankah bay would be my choice. And stop at Casa Cenote afterward for a great lunch and drinks. Maybe not the closest, but well worth the trip

Gran Cenote is on the Coba road - go south to Tulum on 307 and turn right (west) at the Coba sign. It's about 3K on the right. Relatively expensive to get into compared to Azul and the others on cenote row, but well worth it.
