A great steak?

Howdy . Bringing friends this time and would like to get a great steak while there...typically we are of the belief that you do not go to Playa for beef, but its gonna be a craving as we are all coming off diets and we will want/ need it. I have done chicago's and John Grey (names?) but I was thinking about how many times I have seen the argentian staek houses. So I would like a little help in knowing what is what is those places.
Who has been there and has comments about the steaks or perhaps anywhere else that has great beef. And please tell me what you had and what its called so I dont order the wrong thing.
Thanks.

Here's what we thought about one Argentinian steak place in Playa:

Quote:
We ate at El Asador de Manolo Thursday night and it was fantastic! However, the menu is now different from the one posted. Prices are somewhat higher and items have changed. Three of us got beef and it was delicious! Fish orderer (avocado sauce) was not as pleased. Based on price and cost of order, the churrasco is the best possible choice there. A 12-oz order was only around 90 pesos (if I'm remembering correctly) and was delicious. The entraña was also excellent but much smaller and cost 180 pesos. We all enjoyed our caesar salads and the service was also very good. We'll go back, but for the churrasco and salad only, as we found the rest of the menu a little $$$.

Jotr, nice ...so whats that one called on the menu?
Susie, the churasco at El Asador...perfect info , thanks.
The beef I had at Chicago Dons was expensive and I dint care for it...I will return to try their peppercorn this time, but I want some options at other budgets.

I'm a very big fan of El Asador de Manolo. It can get expensive as it is a la carte but the food is top notch and they have a nice wine list as well. It is also a favorite amongst locals too.

I go for the entrana which has amazing flavor. They make a great chicken Caesar for the non-beef eaters and the shrimp and avocado appetizer is out of this world.

Manolos's is #1

I like a tasty beef dinner, and have tried them all in Playa. There are many excellent choices. My favorite is El Asador de Manolo (10th Ave at 24th Street). The menu is extensive. Everything is excellent. My favorite dish there is the short ribs. They are just so darn flavorful, but the steaks are great, and the fish filet in chipotle sauce is to die for.

Not cheap, but a great meal.

I'm with you on the beef short ribs. I like the way the South Americans places cut them, across the bone. I had them this year at Buenos Aires, last year at El Emporio, the year before (cut the way we cut them around here, with the bone) at John Grays. All have been great.

Michael's brother and sister in law came to town in November and were kind enough to take us to dinner at Sur, the Argentinian steakhouse on 5th avenue. It was incredible, the filet mignon I had was divine and melted in my mouth...BUT the damned place was ridiculously expensive. I felt so guilty when the bill came and they treated us. I'm not kidding, it was so expensive that almost 3 months later I am still feeling the guilt about that damned steak.

When I say expensive, I mean...it was US standards expensive. 350 pesos for the filet alone.

They do, but from the reports I've read, the only really great thing there is the arrachera which, while delicious, isn't the same as ordering a great ribeye or filet mignon.

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend them. I've not heard of anyone who was pleased with the steak they ordered there. Don't order nuthin' but the ARRACHERA!!! (Preferably cooked medium. )
