$$$ excepted?

Do most of the places in PDC accept multiple types of money (peso, american, debit cards, travelers checks?) What would be the smartest to stock up on?

My thought would be just to use your cash-point card, you would probably get the best exchange rate , but i may be wrong

Hi there,
We always take US$'s...My husband works in the US part of the year so we save up $ then....Anyway we switch it to Pesos at one of the many cambios in Playa. It is hard for us to get Pesos here in Canada before we leave!

Money to go by should be peso, primarily. You can get pesos at any of the many ATMs.

No problem here getting peso's or any other currency in Canada. I just order it from my bank and it's here in a week to 10 days.

Just a word of caution to avoid my mistake. Back in early December, I ordered $200 CAN of Mexican pesos trying to take advantage of our high dollar. I ended up getting mostly 20 peso notes. Boy do I have a wad of pesos and now trying to figure out where to stash them for the trip to Mexico as they won't all fit in my wallet.

You'll be happy you have those smaller denominations when you get there.

I always bring pesos to avoid having the Mexican merchants stand in long bank line-ups to exchange the US$$$ to pesos.

We can only get it ordered from the credit union here....I just find it easier to exchange when I am there or use my ATM card!
That is funny you got so many 20p notes! Good for tipping I guess....You will look loaded with that wad of bills!

Boreal: I'm jealous of your small denomination bills. I try and special order small bills and my bank grumbles and then they do their best. I've found the ATMs spit our $500 and $1000, which are hard to change for a beer or a collectivo. I find that I still try and take a stack of US $1's just for tipping purposes.

Cash card, cash-point card...do you mean any major credit card? Do ATMs there take any major credit card or is there another card to use?

I never take any more than 20 american here and thats for the airport burgers in the us, mexico is pesos, not american dollars,,, use the cash stop machines, if your from the sates there might be a fee but it would be smaller that what youll lose at the excahnge windows........all us canadians use the ATMS ,,,,are you up to date on ATMS, we have had them in canada for about 3 years now...
