Sedona, AZ - any tips?
My husband and I will be visiting Sedona for two days during the first week of March after attending a family wedding in Phoenix. I have read Manitou and Rixx's reports - of course the photos are fabulous.
We don't think we are going to take a Jeep tour - but may rent a jeep and take our own and do a little hiking {if you can call what I do hiking in cheap sneakers, jeans and a cute top}. Anyone have any tips for a quick trip? Thanks! |

The West Fork of Oak Creek is a great hike. Take walking sticks as you criss cross the Creek several times on big rocks. It's not a loop... you just hike up the canyon and back the same way. The Chapel is very moving, and free as I remember. A good tip: rent your own 4x4 and follow the pink jeeps. Most of the places they go are open to the public, but most tourists think they can't enter. Just be discreet. You wouldn't want to piss anyone off! Be sure to catch sunset on the airport Rd. Don't wait for the official sunset, or you'll miss the spectacular view of the sun dropping behind the rocks. Enjoy!

Some pictures of our trip here: Arizona 2003 pictures from southwest photos on webshots
Sedona is my second favorite vacation spot. We took a very interesting vortex tour. Not one of the Pink Jeep tours. And I have to agree about Airport Road. |

We loved Sedona and are ready to go back. This book was a great resource for us. Lots of different hikes of varied lengths. We loved the hiking because we saw so few people even on the short hikes.
Glad you searched and saw our trip report. If anyone is interested, here it is.

Growing up in Az. I spent many many summer camps in Sedona. I haven't been back in a decade
Its a beautiful place, as you already know. Does anyone know if Jerome is still around? It is/or was an old minning town turn ghost town. The hippies were movin' in the last time I was there which was in the late 80's. Well if it is, its a beautiful drive from Sedona.

Thanks for the tip - I have read many things recently on Jerome and it looks like fun - but with only being able to be in Sedona from late afternoon on Sunday to early afternoon Tuesday - I think I need to leave Jerome to our next visit. |

Spent a night in Sedona on our way through to Mesa a few years ago. There was a micro brewery in town. Can't recall the name of the place, but in the evening, after they shut down production for the day, they would set up some tables on the brewery floor and sell/serve their assorted products. Don't know if it's still going on or not, but it was a pleasant way to pass an evening. Pretty decent suds too, as I recall.
