Three important questions

So we're here in Playa right now and it's AMAZING. We've been doing so many cool things and meeting so many awesome locals. We've been also budgeting but we are still looking for budget friendly activities. So far, we've gone ziplining at a cenote, hung out on the beach, gone clubbing on calle 12, but...what else can we do that's cheap, and possibly even free? We're going to wash puppies at Peanut and feature them on the show too!

Also, what would be cheaper as far as phones? We're trying to figure out whether to get a cell phone or a calling card. Our hotel phone is expensive, even for local calls.

Any advice?

You can buy a cell phone here for 400 pesos, that comes with 300 pesos of airtime. If you think you'll use that much airtime, the phone will cost you 100 pesos, or less than 10 bucks. That's cheap. Then you can either sell it to someone for 100 pesos when you leave, or give it away.

No, not oxxo. There are dozens of little TelCel stores around town. The one I've been to most recently was Avenida 30 and, oh, between Calles 26 and 28, more or less. They're all over the place.

You can take the colectivo to Akumal, cross the road, and hike it down to the beach for oh, probably around 25 or 30 pesos or so. As long as you have your own snorkel gear, the snorkeling is free.

I should know this but...I don't! I always bring my canadian cell with me...swear not to use it except for emergencies...and get home to a $300 cell bill. HA!! Not this time....Telcel, you say?? Not walmart?? Do they come with sim cards and they are all ready to go? HA! No $300. bill for me this year....yeah...more money to spend on cervesas!!!
