Our family (2 adults, 3 kids) will be on a cruise that docks at Cozumel. I really want to take the kids to see the Mayan ruins at Tulum; however, I don't want to pay (nor can I afford) the $100 per person the cruise ship is charging for this excursion. What is the best way to get from the ship to Playa del Carmen to the ruins and back again? Ferry and rental car?? We have never visited Cozumel or Playa del Carmen before...

Take the ferry to playa and back I think it's $10.00us per person each way. Rent a car in playa and drive yourself to Tulum. It's about 35 miles straight down the coast, (an easy drive). You should be able to get a car for $100.00us. Entrance to the park is $3.00us per person. This way you can save yourself $200.00.
