Newbie from WI coming to Playa to drown surrows of Packer loss
Will be there Feb 4th-8th @ Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Trying to get wife to come to peep meet on Fat Tuesday ----wish me luck. Long time lurker, just thought I would join to say Hello to everyone in case I get the chance to meet up with you at El Pirata.
We have 2 excusions planned for 5th and 6th. We are going to Tulum to visit the ruins in the AM and Xel-Ha in the afternoon on the 5th. On Wednesday, we are going horseback riding and doing the ocean safari through Maroma Paradise. Anyone ever do the horseback riding/ocean safari trip? I've heard alot of good things about the ruins and xel-ha. |

(O'boy.....am I ever askin' for it. Calm down folks. I've been a Packer Backer for about 50 years, a Viking fan because of geographic proximity, and a Steelers supporter forever. Talk about a heart-broken loser.) |

Tulum and Xel-Ha

Not to disrespect your plan to do the Tulum / Xel-Ha combination but we did the same tour in December 06. Some of us opted to stay at Xel-Ha for the day instead of going on to Tulum. We found it was near impossible to fully enjoy both locations given the limited time spent on site at both. My wife and I were among those that stayed behind and as such had a better experience. Plus if you are like me you should be aware that Tulum has taken steps to limit access to the actual buildings. Everything is roped off, you still can enjoy yourself but be aware this is not the hands on experience you may have see in images posted on the web. I was honestly a tad disappointed with this but at the same time fully understand the need to do this so the environment can be enjoy in the future. I applaud what they have done but at the same time wish I could have visited 10 or 15 years ago when things were managed differently. |

Thanks for the info Medicine Hat. We are coming to Playa as a result of winning a contest with Chrysler and this is one of their pre-planned trips, so I can't really complain. I'm sure if we had more time--we are in Playa for only 5 days, and when you take 2 days out for flying, it only leaves 3 days to do anything--I would like to spend a full day at each, but time doesn't permit.
I appreciate your input, though, Xel-Ha does look like there is more to do than Tulum. Tulum, we have a guided tour, but I don't know about Xel-Ha. Anything we should make sure we do at Xel-Ha? |
