Playacar beaches are in rough shape right now. If the beach is really important try Grand Coco Bay. It's in north Playa and same distance as Playacar, and the beaches are fine there. There is always the Royal. But the GCB is in the same price range.
You could always try further south like the Barcelo(great beach), Akumal Beach Resort(awesome beach).
Check the thread out about Playacar beaches in AI section.
Good Luck! Remember it's vacation so it cant be all bad where ever you end up.

Personally. I'd rather stay in Playa anytime rather than fight the crowds in Cancun...

I've actually heard the opposite of many of the Cancun beaches over the past year or so. They've suffered quite a bit and bringing in sand didn't seem to help. That's the last I heard anyway. Have you thought about looking north of the Cozumel ferry pier in PDC? That area still has great beaches.

I agree with LnDShark. I would way rather stay in Playa than Cancun. Check the Gran Porto Real or even a smaller beach hotel like Fusion or Playa Maya(not all inclusive but for the amount you save it is just like one) plus then you get to eat and drink where you want to. Look around on this forum and you will see there are so many great places to eat and drink in Playa! KJ

Playa beaches are beautiful

Go to Playa del Carmen. Everything is in walking distance,
shops, restaurants, and clubs. Stay in a hotel in the center of Playa and you will have everything you need because the beaches are 1 block away from 5th ave. If you need any recommendations let me know. The beaches in Playa are great and then visit Tulum for the day the beaches there are awesome too.

The only beaches that are effected by erosion right now are the resorts in Playacar. North is fine and south of Playacar is beautiful! I'd choose Playa area over Cancun in a second. If you are looking for great beaches, the entire stretch is gorgeous, minus playacar.
