Las Palapas & Shangri-La info and rumors

Anyone have any updates on the status of the demise of Las Palapas & Shangri-La. I have read Hyatt is coming in and that another AI is coming in and that they are putting up condos...anyone know anything concrete. Are closing dates still believed to be end of summer?

Summer 2009 For Las Palapas

Las Palapas just emailed me back and said summer 2009. Wonder why they keep pushing dates back. Anyone know if the staff is the same or are people bolting for new jobs since they know closing is coming in the future?

The last I had heard for Las Palapas was August, 2008. Summer 2009 is GREAT NEWS!! It's our favorite and hate to see it go.
What about Shangri La??

If that is true, that's good news for me. Hyatt is the company I want to work for and if I start working for them would probably get some kinda deal on rooms.

I totally agree with Tesla about Las Palapas. It's one of those special places that you come across every now and then that just touches your soul.

Agreed, it's my favorite place in Playa!
Their online reservation system will not take reservation after April of this year. I sure hope they are open until 2009!

Uh, let me guess: you're not r e a l familiar with property and construction type deals in Mexico?

I believe the original opening of our place was delayed something like 4 times over a period of 9 mos or so. And that was pure construction issues, the property ownership and all that being set. El Faro spent, what, about a year and a half closed before they even started tearing stuff down? Or was it more than that? And they ain't done yet.

Nothing spells DELAY like the buying and selling of property and ensuing construction projects in Mexico.

Steve

I heard from a friend of the owners of Shangrila that it is NOT a hotel going onto the site but condos. Of course he prefaced that by saying that could change because no one seems to know actually what will end up happening there.
