I compared Funjet prices with providers like Expedia, Hotels.com, etc, etc... and in the end, found it less expensive when I googled individual travel agencies and asked for price quotes. Funjet was among the highest quotes I received, with the so-called "discount" internet travel booking outfits like Expedia, Orbitz, etc... being a close 2nd. I also called some local agents to compare a nd they were in fact close to the best prices, but let them know you are calling around.

We've went to Mexico 21 times and about half the time I used Funjet and the other half Worryfree. Funjet is nice because if you have a problem they are represented in Mexico with Lomas travel. I just booked a trip in May and used Yahoo travel and saved $400 over Funjet or Worryfree. You should be able to get some bargains from MPLS on Worryfree

I use Funjet all the time, with VERY little problems. Can't recall one actually. The are the #1 company I book clients with. They are not an "internet based discount agency" like Expedia at all, they are a reputable tour operator who has been bringing people to Mexico for decades. Very well respected company. Not sure what happened with the missing transfers, even if the vehicle failed to show up
, Lomas would have put you in a taxi and you would have been reimbursed. A quick call to your agent once home could have had the problem resolved within hours. While things certainly can and do go wrong on vacation, it could happen no matter what company you use. |

Last Feb. when my wife broke her ankle, we had to postpone our flight 2 days while she was in the hospital. One call to Lomas Travel and an agent came to the hospital twice to see how we were doing. They sent a driver to the hospital for transport the the Airport. At the airport the arranged for a wheelchair and took her all the way to the gate and made sure theairport staff put her on the plane. I wrote to Funjet when we returned and told them the name of the Lomas agent that was so thoughtful.
![]() ![]() We had the trip insurance and they even paid for my extra nites in the hotel It is one well organized company |

Funjet experience
From Houston, Funjet & Continental Airlines Vacation packages are about the best price-wise I've found. Funjet usually beat Continental price-wise but Continental had some hotels that Funjet didn't carry when I wanted a specific hotel. I've had pretty good luck with Funjet. For me I prefer non-stop flights (it's about a 2 hour & 20 minute flight each way) which pretty much limits it to Continental Airlines (otherwise its a layover somewhere).
I've found it's worth paying the upgrade to get non-stop private transportation to spend more time at the resort. One time we stood in the hot sun at the Cancun airport for over an hour waiting on someone not in our party but on our van for them to deal with lost luggage! Although I pick out the flights/hotel & price it on Funjet, I still use a travel agent to book it. One trip I was flying charter airlines and they changed both the flight times coming & going--originally I was leaving in the morming & coming back in the afternoon (to maximize time on the beach) and Funjet/charter changed times to leaving Houston mid-afternoon & coming back from Mexico very early morning - the travel agent got Funjet to comp my private non-stop transportation for the inconvenience! |

I have always pulled up Funjet, picked flights, resort, then printed. Always had best prices. Then I would call my travel agent and have her do any comparisons, she would book trip for us. Always used Funjet. When hurricane Wilma hit Playa del Carmen Oct 2005 our travel agent took care of everything with Funjet as we had to cancel the trip to Playa and rebooked trip to San Jose del Cabo(Cabo San Lucas area- Los Cabos. EVERYTHING went so smooth, but we have always purchased cancellation insurance when booking trip, and purchasing health ins two days before trip in case of injuries while in Mexico. Once at resort we would check in with the Lomas Rep, they would also confirm flight back to USA, which was nice. Also, when we stayed at The Royal Playa del Carmen in April 2006, we were not happy with our room, they said check back tomorrow as alot are checking out Sunday, went back, tried to give us two other rooms that were not much better, so I mentioned nicely, "do I need to get my Lomas rep?" he came back and gave us a very nice room for the rest of our stay. April 2007 we were able to pick our room on-line at The Royal which was great, and room was ready when we got there. Funjet and our travel agent have been GREAT.

We've used funjet to Mexico and Vegas and havent had any problems yet. They have either had the best price or one time matched the Apple Vacation price. Our travel agent prefers Funjet's cancellation policy over Apple's policy, and secured the price match.

We have used Funjet a lot and Apple as well. We also had an experience similar to Mark05's two years ago. I had an concussion and subsequent seisure that put me in Hospiten Cancun for three days. Chris had to stay with me and the Lomas folks were extremely helpfull. I assume the TAs associated with Apple would provide the same support as well.
Now that we are not doing the AI thing any more we still ALWAYS book with a TA. She does a great job for us, knows my situation with what could be construed to be a pre-existing condition with regard to travel insurance (a must for anyone in my opinion) and doesn't charge much extra to do it. We booked an Apple flight only for April. It was funny because this time we had the choice to do Apple or Funjet for the same flight and Apple was cheaper. They chartered the plane with Ryan International and are sharing the flight. It was expensive, $634 each, but worth it for us as we want a direct early morning flight out of Milw. We're in Cancun by 0940 and with private transfer on the beach by noon. Gives us almost an extra day on the front end. When we considered that along with it being a peak travel time, it was worth it. We've never had a delay when doing a charter flight. Almost always have scheduling "issues" with the others.Last edited by norml : 02-09-2008 at 06:25 PM. |

As an FYI...their cancellation policies are now exactly the same - for scheduled air anyway. Charters is still a bit different, with Apple giving back vouchers in the amount of the penalty (penalty amount is determined by how long before departure you cancel) unless you select the cash back option ($30 additional). But both companies now charge more for their scheduled air insurance and DO cover the cost of the non refundable airfare - which is great!
