A Mexican mystery

Maybe this isn't just an unoccupied information stand at Centro Maya.

Perhaps it's a thought provoking artistic installation. Maybe it represents the hopelessness of man who approaches the altar of truth to find only confusion and no answers.

Or a paradox. What came first, the sign, and then the booth to give it purpose? Or the empty booth, and then the sign to question its intent?

The thing is, it looks just like the cartoon word bubble that forms over the heads of anyone working in stores or government offices when I ask for help.

Then perhaps it's a monument to 'No hay'.

I was just this second complaining about "no hay" to my assistant, Jorge. For example: "What do you mean you don't have bread?! This is a bakery!"

He thinks it's hilarious.

Certainly you don't expect a bakery to actually have BREAD!!

My favorite thing is not being able to make a purchase unless you have exact change. "No hay cambio senora" .......ridiculous.

Sigh...

This is so funny, and certainly brings back memories.

- I'd like a {insert silly item here, for example comb}

- What color do you want?

- It doesn't matter, any color will do. Perhaps a red.

- No hay.

- A green?

- No hay.

- What colors do you have?

- We only have blue combs.

- Then why did you ask me what color I wanted? (sometimes you manage to say this in a stifled voice, but sometimes it just comes out outloud, and the answer to this last question is ALWAYS a blank stare)

Perhaps the booth was built with the admirable goal to actually give customers information, but then they realized they were over their heads.

PS. For anyone who isn't very familiar with Mexico and how things work here: these kind of comments are made in jest and with love; it's just funny, and sometimes frustrating, but mostly funny.

OMG- this thread has me laughing so hard I think I will pee in my pants....... oh the memories........ and Heather- you are so spot on with the comic bubble observation. Now imagine a employee standing right underneath it and the picture is perfect.

Alex, maybe I can find out information there as to what Bob Bradley was thinking when he sent Eddie Lewis in and what planet Drew Moor was on when he was supposed to be covering Magallon.
