newbie looking for honeymoon help!
Im in the process of planning a 10 day honeymoon, im looking into several hotels and the moment. We basically are looking for a great beach where we can swim and hangout all day drinking margaritas....we would really love something low key, and not too many people, it doen't have to be supper luxurious either. the hotels that i have found are: el dorado maroma, maroma resort and spa, and ana y jose. any info and input would be great! we are from california and have never been to this part of mexico, and we don't know anyone who has either.... thanks!

Well, you have different types of resorts listed there, quite different in fact, so it would probably be best to decide what kind of vacation you're most interested in.
El Dorado Maroma is a new, small all inclusive resort north of Playa Del Carmen. All meals, drinks, etc. are included in the total price. Maroma Resort is non all inclusive and also north of Playa (same general areas as ED Maroma). It's somewhat secluded so unless you plan to eat every meal on site, it would be best of you had a rental car. Ana y Jose's is a small, non all inclusive boutique hotel in Tulum, well south of Playa, and it would really be a good idea to have a car when staying this far away from everything except - Tulum! You could walk the beach to find places to eat, but again, you're in a fairly isolated spot so I would suggest a car. NO way to compare something like El Dorado Maroma to Ana y Jose's - they are so very different! As I said, it would probably be best to decide on the type of hotel you're interested in first, then narrow down your selections. |

Hi Shammy, I am interested in this El Dorado Maroma you speak of. This is the first I am hearing of it. How old is it? Does it share priviledges with the Royale? How does it rate compared to other 5 star resorts such as the Royal Hideaway? Thanks for any info. I know I could look for the website but I think we share the same opinions on how we rate resorts. Just curious on your take. K |

Well, it's new - used to be Karisma's Mi Hotelito, which never really took off.
There are 24 beachfront suites, 12 oceanfront swim up jacuzzi suites and 36 infinity jacuzzi suites that are also beachfront. Very small and intimate resort, romantic I would say. ![]() ![]() It's on Maroma beach which is of course very nice. ![]() It's pretty upscale, with bulter service and concierge service. The rooms all have king size 4 post beds. Hammocks on the balconies or patios. ALL rooms are non smoking. ![]() ![]() There's a Mexican restaurant, Oriental and Italian, no reservations required. Three bars and 24 hour room service. ![]() ![]() ![]() I don't see any info that says you can use the ED Royale. That's what I can tell ya! ![]() |

I would first decide if you want an AI or a hotel with all food and drinks being extra. Do you want to not do anything or go anywhere? Than an AI would be a good choice. But if you want to get out and explore the area, immerse yourself in local culture and get a taste of local food, then a hotel would be a better choice.
Decide on these things and then you can narrow your choices. We happened to stay at an AI...El Dorado Royale. Adults only. A plus, for us. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and did absolutely nothing for the first week. The second week we rented a car for several days and drove everywhere. A lot of fun. Happy hunting. And congrats on your upcoming wedding. |
