Booked to go to the Riu Yucatan in May
Hi,
We went to the Riu Yucatan 2 years ago and had a wonderful time, so much so we booked to go back. We're due to go on 7th May and to my horror I've just seen pictures of the beach. I can see from the forums that they are trying to repair / reduce the erosion damage but does anyone know whether they are likely to improve? Will the beach be much better in 3 months time? ![]() We spent nearly every day of our 2 week holiday on the beach last time and were hoping for more of the same. I'd love to hear how you think the beaches will be in early May. Many Thanks ![]() Dominic |

I was there in Sept 07 when the beaches were recovering from the same type of problem from winter 06/07. When I went back in Dec 07 and seen first hand how bad the beach had gotten right after a storm and I was amazed. I would say look at pictures from May 07 and it might give you an idea what to expect on your trip. Look in the unofficial RIU site: riubambu.com and search through the pics.
FYI: When my wife and I went in December we just went to the Riu Playacar and enjoyed their beach since it did not seem nearly as damaged. At that time I would say you had atleast 50' of sand from the trees to the water. Last edited by Senior Bob; 02-10-2008 at 06:48 PM. |

Honestly, there's absolutely no way to tell what the beaches will be like in May, or any time before or after. It's constantly changing, it could get better or even get worse - although they're trying to remedy the situation. There's only so much they can do, Mother Nature is in charge. You'll just have to wait and see what May brings.

Listen to Shammy, that is good common sense. But since I have been in your situation, you might just hear that and not think it is of much help. Since the beach was eroded to the same extent this time last year I would look for May 07 pics for your best guestimate on what it “could” look like this year. Not to say that is will but it could give you some expectations. Also just follow that board for pics as your vacation nears or even better follow tripadvisor as a lot of recent pics can be found there.

Thanks for your responses. I guess we're just worried about spending a lot of money to go to Playacar from the UK, then getting there and not being able to breathe on the beach.
Do you know what the beach is like further up, say by the Riu Playacar? We also wanted to go Sucba Diving this year - what is it like there for diving? Has this been unaffected by the storms / lack of beach? Thanks again Dominic
