hi from NYC! need help!!

new york city newbie - never been to mexico- planning playa for girl's trip/40th bday (YIKES!!) in sept.
if anyone can give us their top 3 hotel/villa/reort suggestions- we are clueless! - - -
we dont know if we should go private house rental, hotel on 5th ave (deseo, basico), or all inclusive resort!!
ps- i originally started this trip wanting hotel deseo (as per pics on website look amazing!) - but i have gotten some negative feedback : rooms arent as nice as photos, it is very noisy being on 5th ave, no restaurant on premises, drinks are expensive, etc!
then someone recommended basico- but i didnt like the rooms as much as deseo!
private rentals seem like a great idea -but am leery to book something site unseen!
and as for all inclusives- - -we have no suggestions- but want adult only, on the smaller/private/upscale/quieter side - if that even exists??? we are not interested in restaurant options, etc- as we want to only eat local- and only mexican.
see how much help i need!! i appreciate all comments & suggestions- thks!

I suggest you contact Heather using THIS FORM and see what she has to offer you. She's pretty wise about everything available here and will probably be able to help you narrow down what you're looking for.

if you are only going to eat local, then i would forget an all inclusive (i support that decision)
How many of you are there?
That would have an impact on whether a condo/villa or hotel would be appropriate

How about La Tortuga? Did you look it up? I second Rick on that: for local food forget AI but rely on what you can find on Playa.Info about eating out.

And I am with Susie in suggesting to contact Heather.

Andrea

I haven't been at La Tortuga but have heard great things about it. Anna Tortuga and LauraB are both posting on this board so if you have any questions you might want to contact them.

September is hurricane season. There is always the danger of being there while a hurricane hits but there is always the possibility that you'll be fine and have great weather...

We always do a condo especially if there are more than 3 of us for the extra bathroom! In 2006, we were 5 girls and the extra bathroom was a must to get everybody ready for a night out on the town!!!
Also, one of my favorite things is going through the bakery in the grocery store and piling up a tray then getting a bag of good coffee to start out my day. We also pick up stuff to make blender drinks to have by the pool and local things for late night snacking!
I highly recommend the Plantation House for the character, LOCATION and owners (not totally upscale but definitely a very cool, relaxing vibe). This year we are staying at Arena Blanca which is a new condo complex at the North end of the tourist section.
Have fun planning!

I'll be at La Torguga next week for 10 nights for my first trip to Playa. When I get back I'll give you an absolutely unbiased opinion of whether it's the place for a NYC Girl's trip. One question though, should my evaluation be based on watching Sex in the City, or The Golden Girls???

Plantation House is up and running! I spoke with Francoise just yesterday. She and her husband Joe are the owners. They've just changed the companies they list with. I know they're listing with homeaway.com. Their 2 bedroom suite is called the Antigua Suite. Enjoy the search!

Welcome to the forum. I've stayed at LaTortuga and loved it. It really depends how many of you are going. You may want to look into a condo. Have a fun trip. Definately eat local
