Booking Dilemma
I have a dilemma – My family and I are currently booked for Grand Sunset Princess in July, but have many reservations about staying there due to negative comments in other forums. We are now considering changing our plans to either a Riu or an Iberostar AI. I will be traveling with my husband and our 24 and 18 year old. We like to have fun and enjoy shows, discos, shopping, etc. Considering all that, where would you suggest, as this is our first time to Mexico and I want it to be a special vacation for my family?

Royal Playa del Carmen
Right in town so the kiddos will have plenty to do ....and you, too. The Riu and Iberostars in Playacar have serious beach issues and the Iberostars north of town are too far from town...IMO |

We have been to the Riu Yucatan 2 times. When we were there last June, there had been a lot beach lost from the year before. I check the review of tht Grand Sunset Princess on another forum and almost all reviews were positive. I would not change if I were you, especially to one of the Riu's due to the condition of the beach along that area and to the North of that area.

Thanks so much for the imput. For now, we will stick with our original arrangements of staying at Grand Sunset Princess. I will continue to check the reviews and hope that they continue to get better as time passes. Looking forward to our first trip to Mexico.

sunnsand...hang tough for a bit...I have reports that the Princess Resorts are well received after some initial (and expected) start up issues...I'll be there in a week and will provide accurate and up to date info...don't change your plans just yet !

I am booked for the Grand Sunset Princess Feb. 25 - March 3. I was nervous at first, but I think there are just some people you won't please no matter what. This is a brand new resort, so there will be some kinks to work out, but if you don't go until July, it should be a pretty much worked out by then, I would think.
I say keep your Grand Sunset reservation unless you are an anal person that has to have everything just so. My thoughts are that your vacation will be what you make it. Go there with an open mind, have fun and don't sweat the small stuff. I will post my Grand Sunset trip report here when I get back, and show you how fantabulous it is!! ![]() Last edited by sunshinejk : 02-13-2008 at 08:58 AM. sonofdob & sunshinejk - I believe that I am just as excited for you going as I am for me going in July. I hope you have a fantastic trip filled with memories of beautiful sun, sand, and surf. I will be looking forward to your reviews. My family and I are very easy going and, sunshinejk, I agree with you that there are those people that just dwell on the negatives instead of seeing all the positives. I am thankful that is not us. Have a great time, and thank you.
