back from the royal playa feb 3rd -10th
not an official trip report , just a report .
just a little history about us : we are both 41 yrs old . we have been to the following resorts jamaica negril: coulpes swept away. very romantic great resort. cancun : americana grand fiesta grand coral beach . very nice fancy resort . playacar: riu palace : 5 times here. still love this place . hope the beach comes back. they do need to update the resort . maybe a jacuzzi in room or new pool. still great resort dominican rep : iberostar punta cana . great beach great food . just didnt like staying at the resort the whole time. now ive heard they have 3 towns to visit. donald trump has built a resort and shopping centers . and hulio iglesias has also developed a town. playacar : riu yucatan . great resort for families. very nice pool bar and pool . great food playacar : iberostar tucan : great resort big pool , seperate pool bar. great food puerto adventouras : palladium , didnt care for this resort . great pool and pool bar . but the service and food was way below all of the above . well i have a new favorite resort . we were hooked on the riu palace, but since the recent beach erosion we choose the royal. i always liked being in the gated area of playacar. we usually only went in to 5th ave once or twice. the royal is 1 block off 5th ave . this trip we went into town every night. really had a chance to explore the local scene a little more . we even caught a cab to playacar shopping plaza . just loved that little shopping area . about the resort : beach : the beach is flat and very big . there is one spot that has some coral. but a little to the left is a soft sandy large area to swim. never had to play the towel game . we never used the beach beds or huts. we like front row to swim and people watch . great beach for that. topless was about 10% . rooms: this is a big upgrade from anywhere we have stayed. 24 hour room service ,with a magic box. { food is placed in and light comes on .great touch}. in room 2 person jacuzzi . glass enclosed shower .a real king sized bed . royal bedding. pick your pillow. the softest bed in mexico. 2 bathroom sinks. flat screen tv. bose sound system with ipod . robes slippers and large bath towels. candles . food: we usually ate at the buffet for breakfast and dinner . for lunch they have a beach front ala carte . funny eating at a fancy restaraunt in bathing suits.the food and service was great at all. service: beach butlers bring you drinks . also never waited for drinks at dinner or lunch. the service is top notch throughout this resort. pools: very nice infinity pool seperate pool for volleyball / pool bar. drinks: as with any resort i have stayed, if you want more alchohol just ask. i had 5 mango tangos after breakfast at the beach , then dos xx then margaritas , then sol. damm that was every day. lobby : very nice lobby with bar. i only wish this would have stayed open later then 12 midnight. i guess they figure the town is just outside the front door. however they did have a 24 hour room this was just down from the lobby. 2 pool tables , ping pong. also a small hot buffet . also beer taps and liqour to make drinks. we ended up here each night just to wind down. staff : very freindly , only did 1 show . i have seen just about every show in mexico. they have a large banquet room with a stage for shows. we watched the super bowl there. funny thing is we didnt get the funny superbowl commercials. location: doesnt get much better then this resort. walk north or south on the beach . great bars and restaraunts in either direction. easy flat walking beach. went to bad boyz bar and rest. el pirata rest and bar . also a bar at the northern point. cant remember name though. first time we were ever on the beach down in town. it was nice to see the playa maya ,and all the other hotels people talk about. spent the last night having beers with sharky at the beer bucket. all of the peeps from bad boyz must have turned in early. overall had a great trip, was able to meet some peeps from playa info. i would highly recommend this resort . but i hate to do that because then the price goes up and its booked next year when i want to go back. any questions ? just ask away. ill see if my son can put up my pictures. i wouldnt have a clue . Thanks for the great report Steve, we'll be arriving at the Royal 2 weeks from today. It's our first trip to Mexico and it sounds like we made the right choice.
Did you use the online check-in? Looking forward to seeing your pictures online |

I was there the same time as you Steve and you hit the nail on the head with all your comments! This was our second time at RPDC and we loved it even more than the first. What a great resort! The only disappointment was the Pats losing to the Giants
We spent the first half at a couple of PDC bars watching the game then returned to RPDC ball room to see the second half. I was quite impressed with the job the resort did with having 3 big screen TV's and all the food! We had planned on visiting Cozumel and going to a cenote or two but we were so relaxed sitting by the pool or on the beach we did neither. Oh well, there is always next year! Something others might be interested in is that the resort now offers Coors beer. I still stuck with my Sol. To those here who are going soon, you will love the resort!
