Question about booking the Grand Riviera Princess. Couldn't find answer

Hola,

Sorry if this has been answered but I can't find the answer anywhere I've looked. I'm looking into booking a trip to this resort. I realize Funjet books this side while Apple books the Sunset Princess. I was interested in a pool suite and from what I've read the ones on the Riviera side are in the sun all day while the ones on the Sunset side are shaded. Not a huge difference but would much prefer the sun.

Unfortunately, Funjet doesn't offer that room category and correct me if I'm wrong, if I book it through the hotel I won't be able to add trip insurance. My questions, does anyone know of another company that books the Riviera Princess or if I book the Sunset side with Apple will I be allowed to switch to the Riviera at the resort?

Thanks!!!

-Brugal

Apple has their contract with the Sunset side of the resort, and you may or may not be able to convince the hotel upon arrival to let you stay on the Riviera side - you won't know until you get there.

Travel Impressions books the Riviera Princess and the pool suites, but you must use a travel agent to book with them - they don't allow direct consumer bookings.

You can always purchase insurance through an independent travel insurance supplier too.

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions on independent travel insurance suppliers?

Also, I'm a little leery of booking at the Grand Riviera Palace. The prices seem almost too good to be true. So much cheaper than comparable resorts it seems. Is it all because of the questionable reviews that piled up when they first opened?

It's nice heading back to Playa after 3 years elsewhere.

Travelex, Access America, Travel Guard. Big difference is they are not cancel for any reason policies, which is something the tour operators offer.

Good thinking. The sun moves, so do lounge chairs. And you can move you to any part of any pool you want. No worries, vacations are supposed to be easy!

That'll be $29.99 please.

I'm giving you a discount cause you're so very polite.

Thank you, that's a bargain!! The check is in the mail. Next time though can you move the couch to the sunny side of the room?

That is what I was thinking, too. We are booked for the Sunset side, and if it is shady by our room, we will just swim to a sunny spot. More than likely the pool bar. LOL I just wanted access from the pool to our room, so we don't have to trudge through the resort looking like wet dogs.

We just booked through our local agent to be at the Grand Riviera Princess for the week of April 18th to 25th. Our agent could only book the Riviera side through the tour operators they deal with, but I don't know that it matters which side I'm on. Could those of you there now or just returning shed any light on this subject?
Also, what are the room numbers for deluxe junior suites, and what are the locations? I am currently looking for a map of the resort.

As an aside, I would like to thank Shammy for providing me with a very competitive quote. In fact, the only reason we did not use Shammy is that our local agent was able to match the price Shammy provided (not what I expected, but it sure made our local agent work harder once she knew we were looking elsewhere).
I would recommend Shammy for any travel you might need, and I will ask her to quote again for my Playa trips. Thanks again - you really are the most helpful peep!

We Got the Sunset Side Pool

Can't say I really care if I get the extra sun as I am so fair I get burned from the lightbulb in the fridge. But we did get a room through Star Vacations (Apple) Ask for Karla, she was great. (saveonvacationpackages) Tell her Scott from Michigan sent you.

8 nights March 21-29 (Easter) for $3000, plus get a 10% rebate after trip. This is cost for 2 adults and 2 children (7 & 8). Used my Free Spirit Points for the Airfare.

I did call the resort and you have to sign a waiver to have kids in the pool suites. Funny thing is that my kids can outswim me, so I wonder if I am the one waiving liability.
