Dear Perry 245,
Our very first stay in Playa was at the Riu Yucatan, it is a nice enough hotel, nothing to complain about, although I did do my research before going and read about hard mattresses! that was not our experience though. We didn't really use many of the hotel facilities because we like to explore where we stay. The main restaurant is a buffet style affair with lots of food from around the world, there are other restaurants you can book into though, for a different dinning experience. The food was good, lots of Europeans in the hotel, great for people watching, my how Italians love to dress up and look good. The staff were all delightful, the beach was busy but we had great fun on the Hoby Cats, little catomaragans (excuse spelling) . I can't recommend highly enough that you get out of the hotel and into Playa. yes 5th Avenue is fun but go exploring. Go see Cozumel, Cancun, Isla Mujieres etc. we did it all via ADO buses and compared to UK 1960's bus stock it was pure luxury. You are going to love Playa, the people are friendly, lots of sunshine, shopping for the ladies, a great golf course, fab food. It is a very special place. I hope this helps. Kind regards TJ |

We stayed at the Yucatan two years ago. Service at front desk was ok but the service at the pools, restaraunts, etc. couldnt be better. The pool area was very lively during the day with plenty of entertainment. Great shows at night. Food was great with lots to chose from. The drinks were great, too. Back then they had the best beach. We are going back in April with a group but some are concerned with the beach erosion. We are looking into the Grand Sunset and maybe an Iberostar which are north. However, if things change in the next few weeks we may be back at the Yucatan!
If the erosion is not a factor, I would stay here before I would stay anywhere else! Have a great time. |
