I know four of the wines that we all enjoyed.
There was a delightful Argentinian Pinot Noir called Michel Torino. Light and fruity, and perfectly understated to go with the appetizer and salad courses. There was a chewy Malbec called Monte Lindo from Argentina. Big and hearty. Went great with the bison and beef tenderloin. A Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon called Luis Felipe was a superb compliment to the chicken and lamb. An attitude, but polite. The last one I can identify was the Chilean Cabernet/Carminiere blend called Dona Dominga. This was an unusual treat. The Carminiere grape tends to be a bit on the heavier side, but it's well tempered by the Cab/Sauv. A really interesting pairing. I don't know if there were other varieties tried at the other end of the table or not, but these are the ones I'm aware of from down our end. I would be quite comfortable recommending any of these wines. By the way, I saw from the stickers on the bottles that Dario's gets their wine from the Banville & Jones store in St. Vital. These may be unlisted products that aren't available through the government stores. Restaurants often do this so that their wine list can be somewhat unique and exclusive. |
