2008 Carnival in Playa del Carmen

Looky what we ran into on the way home this evening...Carnival!! It was a smaller affair than years past but everyone looked beautiful and the surprized crowd was very appreciative. More pictures here on the blog, 'natch.

I've never seen this before. Does it take place the same time each year? Is this on 5th and if so where abouts?? Looks like fun!

This year, it started on 5th at Constituyentes and went south to the ferry dock. In years past, it has been a much more elaborate affair with floats and many more groups participating. It would travel from the ferry dock, up 5th to Const., then up to 30th, back down to 20th and over to the Municipal Plaza. There was a lot more to do and see. My kids were in the parade 2 years ago and it was long and exhausting but fun.

Is this going on all week Michele? In the past, they've come by our place on 15th, and there were fireworks later in the week. I'm hoping they haven't scaled in back too much.

Still not sure. It usually runs for a few days so we'll have to see if it grows. Usually, there are vendors and floats lining the area around the Palacio Municipio. I haven't seen a thing so far.

Did you know we are neighbors? I'm on 14th on the other side of Tendenza behind Aqualuna Hotel.
