aw you guys are sweet
![]() Yeah, that Customs guy, that was funny. They are such flirts! Susita, oh, but I AM cross eyed in that pic. But it's not normal. Really. ![]() If it makes you feel better I gained 3 pounds on this trip...damn... ![]() Paul- hey cool! I sat next to a guy on the plane home who stayed there- the Japanese restaurant was the highlight of the food there, he said! No, ours was called 'Asian' but it wasn't really what you normally think of...they had spring rolls, which were good, but then different things, like lamb curry. ![]() The PP is very wheelchair friendly- there you go, you will have to stay there next time!

Our first stop was a Spanish fort that was built in 1653 (and added to later.). It has been restored but still needs work.
It is a UNESCO world historic site. ![]() It's significance is it is the fort next to the bay where the Americans fired upon and sank that Spanish ship back in ....1902? ![]() ![]() the front (it's sunk, for more protection) ![]() this island in the bay is where lots of fishermen live...

from the fort we went to a market in a poorer section of Santiago de Cuba.
these guys were making sugarcane juice. ![]() It's green...and foamy the fruit and veg stalls... ![]() ![]() I was looking curiously at this weird brown fruit and the guy cut one up for me and was it good! very sweet. Bright dark orange inside. But do you think I can recall the name? ![]() From there we went to the city cemetary, the Cementerio Santa Efigenia, where the tomb and monument to Jose Marti is located. ![]() his remains are in here ![]() and a statue of him... ![]() Info on who Jose Marti was is HERE. He is revered as the main hero of Cuba. He had a lot to do with freeing Cuba from Spain, and freeing the slaves. He was killed by the Spanish in 1895.

Maggie.....
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() WONDERFUL TR, gal!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to put that together for us!! Great photos and yes... you're in awesome shape, Riss.... thumbs up!! I especially appreciate your efforts in putting this together, as being an American, we just don't get to see much of "Cuber". (And no, we Bostonians do NOT pronounce it that way!! )
