$$$$$ for 1

Can a single traveler get by on about 50.00 bucks a day?
This single traveler is not into high end expensive food..
I like to eat good local food when traveling..Not into tours..This budget will not include my 3 nights or so of turning it up at night..Just for 3 meals a day..Is this possible?

I would say definitely yes. We budget $100 a day for a couple, and it's been more than enough each time.

Assuming you're just talking food, sure, no sweat. Just shop around a bit. You won't likely be eating on 5th, but there's plenty of good places to eat away from the main tourist area.

Yes - find the list of restaurant reviews on the forum and try the inexpensive ones. The food carts near the bus station have delicious food very cheap and also the Pizza Pazza restaurants around town are good. I think it's $2 for a big slice of pizza. The shrimp is my favorite.

Are you including all alcohol, tips, hotel tips, taxis, entertainment etc? I usually end up eating out 2 meals a day. I don't end up eating 3 meals a day most days. I always start with coffee and something in house. Fruit, pastries, something from the market. After I soak in the view with coffee, etc. I shower and go out. Sometimes its early lunch and dinner. Othertimes its late lunch/early dinner and a snack in house. My liquor or wine choices in MX often outprice my meal!

I would say yes to that! Stay off 5th for eats, buy a bottle of wine or whatever alcohol you like and have it in your room or on the beach. We ate pretty cheap at El Fogans but the margaritas downtown were $6.00.
Also don't know where you are staying but most hotels have coffee and pastries in the morning.

I think on a budget of $50, a single person could eat like a King in Playa! Just stay off 5th and hit some of the smaller local places you'll find on every side street.I think the biggest expense is socializing in the bars. That can run into bucks.

Yes it's possible but unlikely. I take it you've never been to Playa before. You will have to have a list of places you will eat before you go. There are just too many places to eat, that are not as cheap as you fantasize.

Our family of 4 probably eats on a $50 per day, or less, budget in Playa. But we don't eat in restaurants 3 times a day and we don't drink in bars very often. Generally, stay off 5th Ave. and look for places that sell take-out meals like roasted chicken, empanadas, tortas, etc. Also, a lot of places have breakfast specials that come with everything, including coffee, for about 50 pesos. As already mentioned, drinking in bars will eat up your budget quickly, so consider buying your beverages and taking them with you to the beach or your hotel. One place that is on the beach that has lunch specials (50 pesos) and cheap beer (15 pesos) is La Tarraya, which is just a 1/2 kilometer or so south of the pier for the Cozumel ferry.

Thanks to all..I think some didnt get my post..The budget for 50.00 a day includes only food per day for 1 person..This is not including drinks, tours, tips ect...
My budget can expand if needs be,just looking for a ballpark on what to expect..I would think you could spend 10 bucks breakfest,15 bucks lunch and 20 bucks dinner and eat pretty well..And from what you guys posted, probably even cheaper than that..And no never been before, but this will be a bargain compared to St Barts or Anguilla..On St Barts i usually just hit the bakeries in the morning, does playa have good bakeries too?? Thanks again all who chimed in.

Yes on the bakery. Walmart has a nice selection and there are others, although I cant remember locations. I think you will be fine on that amount. I have made many trips on less than $50/day - and that included my lodging (we normally hostel or stay at budget places and are not drinkers), food, and collectivos/bus fare!

I'd explode if I ate $50 worth of food a day....... $25-$30 is quite plush

Two great bakeries on 30th ave. The one between 4th Calle and 6 Calle is huge and wonderful! Great cinnnamon rolls!

Easy if you don't eat Lobster

We spent 9 days there in January and for two spent $50 per day. We aren't big eaters and we pick places that are on affordable side ( even on 5th) and we actually ate reasonably healthy ( a terrible sin I know).
