hi Tristan
Do you have a skill that wouldn't take a job from a Mexican? That question is a bit simplistic, but that's the gist of getting a job here. And if you do get a job, the wages are probably much much lower than you are used to. Sorry...not trying to sound negative. Take a leave...hang out here for a month and see what happens. Good Luck |

Sounds good.
My only problem is that i only have a VERY small amount of money and i think the flight and accomadation for a week would probably bleed me dry.
I can DJ and i am a writer, I dont know how usefull them kind of skills would be over there? If i came over i would basiclyneed a job straight away. What about bar work? Im 27 so age wouldn't be a problem. |

Nope, getting a job (or at least one that won't result in you getting kicked out of the country) isn't easy. You have to have a work visa; you have to not be keeping a Mexican citizen out of a job; and you have to be willing to work for peanuts. And... there isn't too much skill associated with working in a bar, so there are plenty of Mexicans lining up for those jobs. Oh, and can you speak Spanish? That's probably a basic requirement for most jobs here too.
Like B'loo said, not being negative, just truthful. |

Unfortunately, Playa is pretty expensive and lots of foreigners want to move live here, which makes it hard to get a job and/or a work visa. You have to count on having no income for at least a couple of months before you have a job and a visa lined up, and that's if you're lucky. Some people work without a visa, but that can result in being put in jail for a while and/or getting thrown out of the country - and yes, I've seen plenty of examples of both, so it's not just empty threats.
However, there are other places in Mexico and Latin America where things are easier and cheaper. But it's all a question of luck and who you are and who you meet etc, so leaving with no money to keep you going for a few months at least, is not a good idea. And anywhere in Latin America, knowing Spanish is pretty much a must. |

On the Spanish note, I don't know how accurate this is but a member of staff at the hotel I stayed at a few years back said if you train up to teach English then they are crying out for English people to come over and teach.
Like I say, I don't know how accurate this is it was just something someone said to me? Perhaps someone else can add as to whether this is correct or not? If it is true though, it's at least a plan to keep you going over here whilst you train, knowing you could move out there at the end of it? I know how you feel about the UK though, I don't think it helps that it's rained about 90% of the time for the past year or so, no summer at all last year But when you look into it, it's not all that bad a place to live although obviously no way near as nice as Playa

I was lucky enough to live in Playa for a year after i sold my house in London, by the end of that i was starting to get job offers but had to come back to the U.K. for various other reasons... I would love to move back there myself but know how difficult it is. If you really are desperate to get out of here, firstly, join the queue
but secondly, take off to spain for the summer where there are no visa issues for us, learn spanish, then consider going to mexico next year when you've saved a bit of money..... Just a thought..... Good luck though.
