Cove North of Playa

Hi again!
I was checking out Google Maps..
Im staying at Shangri-La.. and i noticed this really cool looking cove (from space at least) about 1 mile north of the hotel. **See pic**. I really want to take a walk up there during my stay.. anyone know anything about it? is it a secluded beach? a hazardous area to swim? a popular place to snorkel? any info you have would be great!!! I can't wait to get down there!!

I think a sea monster lives there.
Looks nice, maybe I'll trek down there in a couple of months.

It's perfectly safe to walk there and enjoy the beach. We used to drive there (back when we had all the time in the world) and use the access road just south of Nicte Ha. Really nice beach. Lots of locals. Lots of nudity further north. Now that Mareazul is well under construction and Costa del Sol on the way, that will probably change.

Hi. I walk up to that cove every week. (wish I could say every day). At the cove itself the beach gets rocky and the sand seems to have more trash/rocks/shells in it- making it - to me- harder to walk on and swim in. I rarely go past that point because I'm a 'delicate flower' and my feet start to hurt at that point and I turn back. But it is a wonderful walk from Shangri La up to that point.

If you make it past, let me know what all is there.

That cove is called Punta Esmeralda.

BTW, if you walk about ten minutes North, you'd get to the gay beach (just FYI).

My wife and I have walked past that cove around the point and further north about 1 to 1 1/2 miles, more construction around the point and past that construction is a really large resort, can not remember the name, and past there some. We take that walk every after noon while in Playa and I have seen topless women (including my spouse) but never any one nude or any Gays, we have usually just seen locals and some people on walks from the big resort. Many locals in the cove area particuarly on weekends, my wife always brings a t shirt so she can cover up thru this area while walking. We have always enjoyed the walks and its always been safe and have met some nice people during our strolls.
