"One nice thing, is Friday, La Hacienda (Mexican Restaurant) will no longer require reservations and Saturday, Mama Mia will not need reservations as well. So that really helps, as reservations seemed really hard to get. I am thinking that maybe their staffing is improving, so they are able to do this???
Not sure...We had to stand in line for almost an hour to make the one reservation, but we met a really nice couple in front of us and chatted with them, so it made the time go really fast."Are the other ala cartes still reservations required. ( I'm actually hoping so as I booked platinum and would like at least one perk to remain that they offered with it.) I'm also interested in more information regarding the dive shop. |

It is great to see such a fine report of this resort. I was starting to really worry after all the negitive I read on TA. This has now reassured me in a good way. Arriving April 2, and really tired of a long winter in this part of canada and need warmth and sun.

I can copy the code, but when I hit save, it just thinks and thinks and thinks. It has been thinking for 4 hours....HELP. ![]() |

Saturday
Since I can't get the dang pictures to load right now, I will try and finish my trip report.
Saturday, here we go. We got up bright and early and headed down for an early breakfast before our FatCat tour was to start. We were supposed to meet in our lobby at 8:15 for our pick-up. We waited, and waited and waited, thinking maybe we got the pick-up wrong. Nope, checked the paperwork, right where we were supposed to be. Hubby goes to the front desk to see if he can call the FatCat office, gets redirected to the concierge line which was REALLY long. He waited in line, I waited in the lobby for the bus (just in case). 9:30, Korey comes back. OOPS, the driver went to the wrong hotel...so we didn't get to do the FatCat. We were bummed, but Playa.Info was GREAT about refunding our deposit to us. Now we will just have to do that when we go there next time. ![]() So....with no excursion on Saturday, we head back to the room and get our beach stuff ready. We spent a lazy day on the beach, ate a late lunch, took a nap and we WERE going to meet Dan and Mickey at Bad Boyz, but we got a case of the tummy yucks. We were also going to meet our friends from WI there, but we decided to stay at the hotel. We did end up going to MISO for dinner that night and had the Tepanyaki. It was an AWESOME show. ![]() I couldn't choke down the sushi or the sushimi ), but the rest of it was really really really good (I am NOT a seafood eater when it was cooked, I had a really hard time with it being uncooked, nothing against the sushi, others that LIKE that kind of stuff said it was great). Sushi ![]() ![]() Sushimi ![]() ![]() Our chef was "Bruce Lee" and he was funny and did a GREAT job. ![]() ![]() ![]() Dessert: Korey's was really good. A deep fried banana and chocolate ice cream. Kind of looks like a penis. ![]() I had deep fried ice cream, but I didn't take a picture. I ate it too fast. It was OK, I have had better. We were lazy and really not feeling the greatest, so after a 2 hour dinner which started at 8 pm, we hit the hay shortly after 10 pm.

Sunday
Sunday was almost a repeat of Saturday. Only we didn't have an excursion planned. So...we slept in, got up around 9ish, and hit the beach. We found a nice palapa off to the south end of the beach. I gotta say, I REALLY liked the beach. We always found a chair and found a palapa when we wanted one. It is really sandy, and the animation crew is always keeping you busy if you WANT to be busy with horseshoes, sand volleyball, bocce ball, etc. We were bums, though, so didn't do any of that. Just drank, walked the beach, and sat on our duffs reading a book/magazine, or catching the sun.
We had dinner on Sunday night at Mama Mia, the Italian restaurant. It was REALLY good. We had an appetizer of bruschetta. One with mushrooms and one with tomatoes. ![]() My salad, I can't remember the name of, but it was sliced cheese and tomatoes with a balsamic/pesto oil drizzled over it. ![]() Korey had a beef raw, thinly sliced "salad" with thin sliced parmesan cheese and a pesto type oil drizzled on it. ![]() I had no idea what I was ordering for dinner, though, as the menu was not very descriptive. Korey got something like Capannolli????? ![]() and I got Risotto. I took a stab at it and couldn't have ordered more perfectly for myself. I LOVE mushrooms, and this was like a cheesy rice with the best mushrooms EVER on the top of it. ![]() I was a tad bit dissappointed with the dessert, as I REALLY wanted Tirimasu that was listed on the menu. Well, it looked like we got 3 of the small dessert cakes that were from the buffet line. One was KIND of like Tiramasu, though. All in all, it was yummy. ![]() We were going to actually catch one of the shows before leaving on Monday AM, but after dinner, we decided to go to our rooms and pack for the morning departure. We feel old...we sure went to bed early most nights, and we are only in our 30's. What the heck is wrong with us!!!??? Maybe we need to come back for another week and make it a party week. LOL. Monday and back to reality
Well, we had a 10:45 a.m. flight at the CUN airport, so it was up early for us on Monday. We had to catch our transfer in the lobby at 7:05. Since the buffets were not open yet, we went to the sports bar and had nachos and hot dogs for breakfast at 6:40 in the AM. LOL. They were tasty, though. I also had a killer mocha latte. It was DELISH!! I wish I would have made my way in there every morning... darn it anyway.
The transfer was right on time, so it was adios amigos, we were on our way home. Sad but excited to see our kiddos, too. At the airport, I got pulled aside and checked. My purse, my carry on, the wand EVERYWERE. Once they found I was "clean" I got to meet Korey on the plane. We had an uneventful flight back to Minneapolis and left the warm caribbean weather to 15F. c.c.c.c.c.old back home. We are back safe and sound and ready to plan the next trip!! Would I go back to the Grand Sunset Princess??? YOU BETCHA!! It was awesome!! |
