Boyd Coddinton dies at 63!!

Breaking: Boyd Coddington dies at age 63 - Autoblog

Wow, loved his cars, some incredible talent there. His show had a bit much for drama, but the hot rod community will feel this!

Wow! Thats a bummer. He seemed like a pretty cool guy on the Discovery Channel T.V. show he was on. I really liked how he wore a Hawaiian shirt every day, I wish they would let me do that at the fire department.
Am I freaking out when men die, or do I just pay attention more now that I am 40? Too many men die young, like 40's 50's and 60's. Scares the begeezues out of me. Lord, if you listening or reading Playa.info tonight, I would like a lead a productive life until I am 75. Thanks. PK

It is really a shame when someone dies "young". I used to watch the show but was so put off by how Boyd C. treated people around him that I stopped watching.

I cannot stand people like that. He had no regard for others, did not respect others, never had anything nice to say and only had "His way" of doing or looking at things. I have no time for people like that.

Do you believe the Jerry Springer show too? Or maybe Orange County Choppers? Would anyone watch the reality shows if they were nice to one another all the time and there was no drama? I think not. Let's face it...tis' TV and that's what people wanted to see.

As for Boyd's real personality...I have no idea..but I won't judge him based on that TV show...I'll give him the benefit of the doubt!
Unless of course you actually met him and saw him treat people this way...

Mike wears Hawaiian shirts everyday. He has more than 40 of them. He DID make an exception while we were in Navajo country recently and the the temps were in the teens with snow on the ground. He wore long sleeved tees then.

Mike and I have had many male friends die at young ages. My former husband passed away at 55. I am hoping for a LONG life for Mike, who's currently 56. He has assorted medical problems. (inherited) His mom died in her early 40s and his dad died in his late 60s. I'm almost obsessive about looking after him. I truly enjoy our life together and want him around for a LONG time.

Go to google and type his name followed by the "colloquial" term....."A**Hole". Evidently, I am not the only one to think that he was.

Furthermore, I find it difficult to accept that a "nice" person would accept doing a show that portrays him as being an A-hole. What does he gain from that?
An automotive shop produces enough drama on its own without someone "acting" as the lead A-hole role.
Believe me.....he was an A-hole.

Lovely way to speak of the dead (I had never heard of Mr. Coddington - opened this thread to find out who he was)

I wonder what people will say about you after you have passed on?

Go back to my First post in this thread and read my First line. That is what I think.

You know I had this big boring novel all written out, blah blah, who would read all of it, really, LOL

What it comes down to, IMO, and I can relate 100% to the late Boyd being an owner/manager with 150 employees, sometimes you just need to be an A-hole, period. I think to myself many times, the only difference with my crew and my kids is the sheer number of people. Both spend the whole day trying to get away with as much as possible, dancing on the fine line of what get's them in trouble. If you don't deal with it, they won't listen next time.

Does that make me an A-hole, maybe at work sometimes, sometimes I'm a great guy and everyone loves me. That only applies at work, it's perfecting the art of leaving your work mindset in the garage with your cover-alls, and then become the care-free dude you can hang with afterwards, that is the battle. We don't know what the late Boyd was really like with family, friends, downing beers while bbqing, all we know is just what he did on TV. Coached or not for the camera, I respect the man and what he contributed.

Only those who knew him personally can make the A-hole call, I'm sure he wasn't just all piss n' vinegar.

All IMO of course.
