You can't beat the price and location.
I also like the Maya Turquesa.[Hotels Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Maya Turquesa Hotel]. It's just a couple blocks west of 5th Ave. A little further from the beach than the former, but not too far. It's a fairly new place and they have suites with full kitchen on the 2nd floor.
How do you get them to respond to your inquiries?

Ron, the previous owners of the Maya Bric were German, I believe, and they were very good about answering e-mail. The current owners are Mexican and I haven't tried e-mailing them- but, I've talked to them in person and they are reasonably fluent in English and, if you called them, I don't think you would have any trouble communicating. We usually just show up without a reservation, anyway. I haven't stayed at the Maya Turquesa for a while, so I'm not sure about them.

Roni, it's been a few years since we've stayed at Maya Bric, however, we never had any problem corresponding with them in the past. Though if the ol' memory serves me correctly, sometimes it's taken a day or two for them to respond to our inquiries. The mail address I have on file for them is info(at)mayabric(dot)com.

We just got back from the Alhambra, nothing fancy but perfect for our trip, crawl from room to beach chair, to room out to 5th. Reasonably priced for the beach too.

It just goes to show we have widely divergent views of what constitutes reasonable. I don't make judgments for other people about what reasonable might be, but for me Playa Maya and Ahlambra are real expensive hotels

We're staying on Isla from Dec. 12-17 in an apartment for $75 a night - and we have the private roof-top terrace two blocks from the beach. We're staying in a studio with kitchen in Merida's Centro from Dec 17 to Dec 24 for about 615 pesos a night - and they have a free nightcap cart in one of the common areas and a nice garden and pool.

I do not call hotel rooms in Playa costing over $100 a night reasonable, even during the holiday season. I may end up spending that much or more for the 4 nights we are going to be there, in which case I will average all 16 nights of our trip and feel okay about the cost

Value shopper, cheap B**tard, both terms might apply to me.

Heard from Alux - it was real snappy once the web form for reservations started working

Here is what they wrote

Ronald Smith,

Thank you for your inquiry. Due to hotel policy and system we only have the
availability for the next 6 months. Therefore, if you wish to make a
reservation for December, we will not have access to that availability and
rates until the month of June. Please let us know in June if you are still
requiring the reservation so that we may process it.

It is relative, no doubt Cousin Jacko

We paid more than that to stay with Peeps in Eugene for the Oregon Country Fair meet.

Worth every penny too.

That's pretty much what I told you, too, wasn't it, Roni?
