I'm in NM but haven't been to Santa Fe in quite a while. Too many new age libs there for me.
![]() Of course you will have to do a tour of Old Town and visit the church with the miraculous? or divine staircase. Not sure of the name of the church but just ask and someone will direct you to it. It really is pretty cool. You'll probably want to buy some authentic Indian jewelry. Lots of vendors in Old Town and you can dicker with most of them. It may be a little harder to bargain with the metal prices so high but I'd try. Go a little north and visit Taos and Red River if you get a chance. Beautiful area. |

You must eat at the Shed. This place has the best green chile enchiladas. Another place is Cafe Pasqual. Reservations are needed at this place, but the food is incredible as are the margaritas. Brunch is great here as well. As Jaybird indicated, you can buy some nice jewelry in the portales around the plaza. You can haggle a bit, but usually the vendors will cut you a deal if you buy a couple of pieces. The shops around the plaza are very expensive, but you can find some beautiful jewelry there as well.
There are also some art galleries near the plaza that are very cool. Nearby is Chimayo which has a neat chapel that is supposed to be a place where miracles are granted. Next to the chapel is another great eatery: Lorena's ( something like this). Anyway, this place has fabulous flour tortillas and green chili. If you are going during Easter week, don't bother going on Good Friday. Thousands of people go there because of this holy day. People do pilgramages there because they believe that the soil in one of the rooms of the chapel will heal illnesses, ward off bad luck, etc. The houses around there are very cool. |

I don't know about Bandelier. Most of the things I do while I am there are during the day or early evening so I couldn't tell you which bars are fun to visit. Another option would be to ask the concierge or front desk at your hotel.

Another shopping idea. If you like hats these folks put together a fine one.Panama hat, fur felt hats, and hat bands from Montecristi custom hat works
I used to have one but alas it was lost or stolen. Their prices didn't used to be quite so steep. |

I lived there for years...and it just depends on what you want to spend. For restaurants:
Expensive, but terrific - Geronimo (on Canyon Road) The Palace Restaurant (under new owners) The Coyote Cafe (on Water Street - great margaritas) Less expensive - the Coyote Cantina (rooftop, lunch place - love the duck quesadillas) - Tia Sophias - great breakfast or lunch (W.San Francisco Bars - must go to Vanessie's (piano bar) or El Farol (on Canyon Road) for live music (where I met my husband, er... ex-husband) Still a great place. Still a great town! Enjoy! |
