Sundays R 4 Kastacan

For a glimpse into a bit of our family routine, I wrote and posted some pictures today about our Sunday family tradition: watching football, drinking beer and eating warm, juicy, chewy tacos kastacan with Jilly and Milo and the kids. Yes, it is just as tasty as it looks.

I've been to that place. Great carnitas and chicharron.

Did you read this

Kastacan, for the uninitiated, is sort of a mix of fried skin and meat.
from Michele's blog, Vanessa?

Fried skin = for me!

No offense, Michele... I'm sure it's great if you can get around the thought of it... but you used the word, "chewy!"

Ugh! It looked good until you mentioned the "fried skin"!! Well, it still looks good...as long as I don't think about the skin!

You mean you have never eaten the skin from fried chicken?! I don't now for health reasons, but as long as it was crispy, I used to love it!

I like chicharrones, too. It's the crispiness I need. Don't know that I'd like chewy or rubbery skin. And that makes me *shudder* just writing it.

Yep Susie, I did read the blog. I'll usually try anything once and I'll especially try it if someone tells me it's tasty. I'm half Mexican and there have been many times that my Mexican grandmother has put a dish in front of me which I've enjoyed. Afterwards, she'd tell me what I've just eaten. The most memorable and most delicious was actually cow's tongue.

And like Heather said, the skin on a chicken is really good! Whenever I get a rotisserie chicken from the store, I'll allow myself a few bites of the crispy goodness before I peel the rest off and discard it. It's so high fat and so bad for you...but sooo tasty!

You are a brave, brave girl! And I think I admire you for that?

I'm the same way with the chickens at Pollo Bronco... a couple bites of the really crisped up chicken skin parts are yummy good, but the white, limp, wrinkly, bumpy part is a little gaggy.

Okay, okay... enough of that. You and Michele go have your yummy kastakan dinner and I'll show up for dessert! (Something chocolate or creamy, okay? )
