ivkaplan...o.k., skeeters...sunshine jk is right...pool side or garden view no difference, the suites are only 50 feet apart...again though, it's not a big issue...I had no problem at all and mouse had a few bites...not a swarming epidemic by any means...KC Arrowhead, I think you will find yourselves in places far more entertaining than gathering outside your room in the evening...there is so much going on here...trust me...kre8tiv1...they have what you want...top shelf liquor with experienced bar staff...premium mojitos...keep in mind that the pool bar staff are rookies and geared to pumping out volume...you'll get the liquor you want if you ask but you're better keeping it simple ( they can make a mojito )...the lobby bar staff are experienced and can make anything you want and maybe introduce you to something new ? Go to the Sunset lobby bar in the evening and get Saul to mix it up for you....sonofdob.

GRP Facts

Hi Dan...East coast Vern here again. How's things on the west coast my friend. Monster storm brewing here today in Halifax, it seems we are between two major weather fronts. It's going to be nasty...can't wait to slither onto the GRP beach and get away from this mess.
At any rate, we're booked in to a junior suite on Tuesday April 29th. Even though this is our 6th trip in a row to the Mayan, it's a big year for my wife and I because we're bringing the whole family with us. Our daughter (26) her two kids (grand daughter 5 and grand son 9 months) and her fiance, along with our two boys 23 and 19.
I have a few questions about the rules as it relates to the lay of the land and where we can venture and were we can't on site. First, I take it not all pools are available to people staying in the Junior suites. What about the swim up bars, buffets, or the beach areas..any restrictions?
What about the trip from the airport to the resort...I joke with my boys as they ask how long it takes....I say it's a 2 beer or a 3 beer trip...hahahahah! Normally the bus ride to Playa is a 2 beer trip...so maybe this is a rushed 2 beer trip??? Share what you think it would be??
KIDS: The girls want to know about activities for the kids. Perhaps someone reading this can jump in and share some info...?
ROOMS: In terms of the rooms, what we've seen so far would indicate they all look immaculately clean.
Any secrets we should know about or just neat areas to visit on site....love to hear about the restaurants...which one's you recommend.
Vern

Pools

Junior Suites have access to all pools except those for Platinum and Laguna Villa. Those pools are right near the two sections of the hotel, are fairly small and you have plenty of others to choose from. Even though the Jr Deluxe swimouts have the pool access, anyone can go into those pools. Beach access is the same for everyone. There is a kids club, but we didn't have any with us - kids seemed to be having a good time - they came into the main pool to play water polo.

I think the amount of time it takes to get to the hotel depends on how many stops you have inbetween. The shuttle from the airport had only one stop for us, so I would say it was about 30minutes. On the way back to the airport heading out, I would say it was 45 minutes, as we stopped at 2 other hotels. We had a van that fit 10 of us comfortably. So, it is all how fast you drink your beer, my friend. For me, I can only drink 1/2 beer in 30 minutes....LOL. Hubby can drink 1-2.

You will have a LOT of pools to choose from while there. And you will have access to 3 swim-up bars, if I remember correctly.

Buffets: there is the riviera lunch buffet open at noon, and also the two buffets that are closer to the beach (Las Olas and Las Turtugas). At night, the Riviera and Sunset buffets are open (and for breakfast), and Las Olas and Las Tortugas turn into ala Cartes. Anyone can visit any of these buffets, it doesn't matter what type of room you have. The two closest to the beach are the busiest for lunch, since the Riviera buffet is closer to the front of the resort and furthest from the beach.

I hope this helps. Maybe sonofdob can throw some input in, too, in case I am remembering incorrectly.

Hi again

Thats great news on the restuarants and all the swim up bars (my fav). If it's 30 minutes...heheheheh that's easlier a 2 beer trip after all we are Maritimers (Eastern Canadians) one might even be able to polish off a shot of Tequila or two...snicker.

Grand Princess Resort

Question:
Any Canadians going to the GRP April 29 - May 5. If there are hockey fans among us...we know of two sport bars in Playa that we Canadians take over from 6 PM to 11 PM nightly. We've met Canadians from every corner of the country and pack these bars every night.

bldg_engineer...sunshinejk nailed it...way to go Jamie or was it Korey ? The transfer is usually three beers for me...two for mouse. Kids will have a blast...our kids are grown and gone but we saw the miniclub in action and they were having a great time...lots to do. You will have full access to the resort regardless of room class...the two restricted pools are so small you would not even be interested...as noted in my review we met many people from the Platinum and Laguna Suites that chose to hang with the "regular folk" at the 7 other pools as it was more fun...trust me...the activities pool, centre stage is where it's at...ya, that's some nasty weather you guys are getting right now...out west here we are basking in sun and 15 degrees...that's about 60 for you sunshinejk...not sure if I should sail or golf tomorrow ? ha ha ha...sonofdob.

Yup, it's Jamie. sunshinejk actually is my (Jamie's) first and last initials. Korey reads, but doesn't post. If he wants to, he can get his own log-in

I just told Korey to get his own log-in, and he "doesn't like to talk on those things". So he will continue to be a lurker....I even volunteered to set up his account for him, but nope. He doesn't want one. SHAME ON HIM!!!

Hi everyone, I just love the trip reports. SunshineJK I really like the photo's that you posted. It was really nice meeting you and Kory :-). Skinny witch and John I miss you guys so much I sure wish you lived closer. Sonofdob what can I say great review and photos of the resort. I agree totally with what you said. Anyone going to this resort will not be disappointed. My only complaint was that it was not organized and with that said keep in mind that it is a new resort. The resort itself is beautiful and the entertainment is fantastic. The drinks are top shelf and the rooms are gorgeous. Have fun and remember your on vacation so relax suck up the sun, eat and drink. The beach is nice too. Ahhhhh I sure wish I was still there.
