Your on the spot North Beach reporters are at it again, live from Playa. There's a new fish place on our block (Calle 26) directly across from La Quinta Pasion between 5th and 10th Avenues. It's called Popeyes, believe it or not. It's just a little hole in the wall. We haven't eaten there, but it appears to be a carry away fish & chips & burger place. We'll let you know after we've given it a try.
At the corner of Fifth Ave and Calle 26 there's a new fruit juice joint not yet opened, but it looks like it will happen in the next day or two.
The one we're really excited about it Karma Bagels on Fifth near the corner of Constituyentes. The entrance is on Fifth, just next to Aca Los Tacos. Looks like they have lots of salads & gigantic bagel sandwiches. They were offering free nibbles of different types of sandwiches on the street tonight. They were GOOOOD. We're going to be checking this place out.
We actually finally tried the salad bar (Mondo Natural) at the corner of Fifth Avenue & Calle 30. Really, really good salad. There's now a gelato place practically next door, so you can reward yourself for being good and having a salad. In between is a fancy tequila store in case you get thirsty walking the 10 feet between the salad and the dessert.
A little outside of North Beach but still news is the moving of Tacos Israel. Currently on 15th near the Palacio Municipal (city hall), the perennial favorite is closing next week & moving out onto highway 307. They're not going to have another restaurant, just a taco cart next to the OXXO at the first stoplight north of Playa. The good news is they plan to do home (hopefully hotel) delivery. They will post the phone number on the current location once they move, and when we see it, we'll post it here.
And James, we finally tried El Cejas, the seafood restaurant on 26th near 30th Avenue. Okay, you were right, again. Pretty good.
