Formatting text? (new paragraph)

This may be a dumb question, but how do you format text? Specifically, how do you start a new paragraph with a space between the previous one? When I type a paragraph and start a new one, it looks like I want it to but then when I post it loses the space between paragraphs.

hit the enter key twice between paragraphs... even though it will look like a big space when you are typing, it will leave only one space when you submit it

if I only hit the enter key once
it doesn't leave a space

How weird. When I make a post, it shows up exactly as I typed it. One "enter" equals one line. I wonder if there's some setting somewhere that controls this?

EDIT: PS, I've moved this to the Feedback forum, as we might get some more info from James and others here.

Not exactly the same question,,well not at all really, but this seems like a good spot for it. How do I get the url and other little stuff away from my countdown box? While we're at it how do you do the little smile faces? I feel like a moron for asking because I'm sure its a simple couple of fixes. Thanks in advance.

Can't say for sure - there's nobody more "low tech" than me - but have you tried going into the User CP, and into the Edit Signature? Seems to me you should just be able to highlight the offending words and delete them. As for the smilies, where are you wanting to add them? If it's in a posting in a thread, there's a selection of them shown on the right >>>>>. Just put the cursor where you want the smilie, and click on the smilie you want.
