Lodging Options?
Will be arriving in Playa early afternoon on Saturday, May 3. I thought maybe Posada Freud might be "my place", but when I inquired about availability, they didn't have anything for that first night, but had rooms on Sunday. Initially I thought we'd just arrive and <with Map Chick Map in hand> check out some places and do a "walk-up". Well, planner that I am, I am concerned about trudging around with luggage trying to find a place to park it for the night, when all I want to do is get my feet in the sand and a cervasa in my hand!
I'm not sure how long we're going to stay, so I'm reluctant to book some place for a week or five days. We'll be in Mexico for 11 days, but will be going over to Isla for 4-5 days as well. A lot will depend on where we find to stay in Playa and how comfortanble we feel. Any advice on walk-ups on a Saturday? I guess I was feeling that maybe folks book Sunday through Saturday, and that first night might be an issue finding a decent place. Oh! I'm not too picky, but AC would probably be nice in May. Also, geek-son that I have, WiFi is an added plus. Otherwise, as we have 11 nights in Mexico and prefer to spend $$$ on good eats and drinks, I'm looking in the $40-70 range. Beach front isn't necessary, but convenience to all the happenings around town helps! Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Starting the "count-down", and it's 49 days away! WOOHOO! mom2mac a/k/a Kristi |

I've stayed at Maya Bric for a few days the last two years. Both times we had a day or two before we could get into our other hotel. It's right on 5th pretty close to Posada Frued. They have a pool and nice grounds. They also have a computer you can use for free. I would e-mail and see if they have anything for your first night. High season is $70 with air con and $60 without.

I have stayed at the Luna Blue and can highly recommend it- they have free WiFi. We looked into Posada Mariposa for our Nov. trip- they fall in your price range. La Rana is probably within your range too- and you get the bonus of having a great bar 2 steps outside your door. And I think they may have WiFi. We loved Posada Freud, too, so if you want to wing it for one night, then stay there, I can recommend them (if you don't mind music until about midnight) Other budget hotels we looked at include Maya Bric, Lab Nah, Alux, and Rosa Miridar (sp?). I know some people here have recently stayed at Maya Bric and Alux- and gave them the thumbs-up! Good luck! |

One place you might try is Hotel Aqualuna. Its listed under the "Travel Planning" tab. They quoted us a rate of $69 a night for a stay in early May (30% discount for low season). Loved our stays at the RCM, but for the same $'s Aqualuna looks better and is more convenient. The suites at RCM are very good but the rooms are Motel 6.

Hey Bunny.... thanks for the response.
We ended up staying the first night at Hotel Cielo. It was one I'd researched, but I was sorely disappointed. The wi-fi didn't work..... my son ended up on the balcony and connected to the restaurant across the street. TV didn't work either. The only room they said they had with a balcony was a street room for $70. We were tired and just wanted to land for one night. So we took it. I spent over two hours the next morning in and out of motels, checking availability and ammenities and prices. I'd done my research, I thought, so I kind of knew which ones had internet and what the prices "should be". Pelicanos on the beach quoted me a price of $60 on our first evening there, but when I went back the next morning, it was $70, and they wouldn't let me check out a room to see what it was like. We ended up at Copacabanas on 5th, and it wasn't that bad. It was quiet..... lovely courtyard garden, and pretty close to everything. Price was NOT cheap though. We paid $90 for a one-bedroom unit. The room itself was okay.... but internet was only available on the balcony. Ended up having to buy an extension cord at Wally World so my son could "chat" in the evenings without the computer timing out. I don't know what "holiday" was going on, but evidently something was. It definitely wasn't low season prices that are listed on internet sites, for the 15-20 places I checked out on Saturday morning. I definitely wouldn't recommend the walk-up and wouldn't do it again, however it worked out okay for us. |
