The Royal April 14th-21st, 2008
We arrive~ anyone else?? For sure checking out the Bad Boyz on the beach!! We have never "stayed" in Playa before as we were always at the Barcelo.....with our kids...however this year...it is just "us" celebrating...and what better place than Playa and of course, I hear The RoYaL.......

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Playa Del Carmen last August for our honeymoon, and we had an absolutely incredible time! Yaaay for you!!
We just booked our second trip..and it's for January 09. We thought a break from a harsh Maine winter was in order...

So you are planning to go back...wow..we are excited...we have been to the Barcelo 4 times.....and we have always wanted to stay in Playa....now we are!!
Trying to figure on what room to request when the time comes.....although we don't hang in the room much!

We had a ground floor room, #180. It was technically an 'ocean view' but really, you had to look out and turn your head to the right, to see ocean. I've heard people who dont particularly care for the ground floor, but we loved it. We weren't bothered at all by anyone walking by, it was not loud either. We crossed the hall, and could enter a small walkway that went directly to the pools (a few steps away). Off of the terrace was the courtyard, which was beautiful in the bright sun.
We didn't have to hassle up the stairs with sand in the flip flops every time we wanted to go to our room.
Regardless of the room you get, I'm sure your time will be faaaaaaaaabulous

we'll be there 4/17-4/29 for the 2nd time - we liked it that much!
Only resort we're making a return trip to so far - you'll love it!

As a world traveller, this is one of the worst hotel experiences
I dont even know where to start for this one.....the resort is beautiful but the service is atrocious! no worth the $500 dollars a night.
The staff was pretencious and rude....we had too many experiences the week we were there to list them all..........We had dinner at one of the restaurants one night and left our camera there.......our camara never appeared and they would not look into reports for the following days.....only reports filed for that night!
The food is pretty bland and we regretted signing up for an all inclusive when there are so many wonderful restaurants around 5th.
Horrible experience! If you want a great vacation stay somewhere else

WOW we had a completely different experience at The Royal! They treated us like royalty! I LOVED the Royal! What a fantastic resort! My trip report on it is somewhere!

Same with us! we had the most incredible time there.
As with any place, you gotta take the good with the bad, I suppose.
