Introduction

Ed and Catherine. I am a 53 year old avid scuba diver and my wife is a non diver who loves to snorkel and enjoys the beach. I have visited the Mayan Riviera several times and in June my wife and I are going to seriously look at buying a place. I am interested in hearing from Canadians/Americans that live there seasonally. The high Canadian dollar has me thinking that now is a good time to invest with the idea of spending half the year there when I retire. I don't need to be told about the diving - I love the cenotes and the Akumal/PDC/Cozumel reef. Please tell me why YOU spend your seasonal time there. Who are your friends? (generic descriptions - not names) What areas do you live in? What clubs or volunteer organizations have you joined? All thoughts and opinions are welcome. This is a big decision for us and we want to get it right.

WOW ... that's a pretty heavy first post ... especially for Easter Sunday morning! I stopped in to say howdy and welcome to the forum. I'll have to process the rest after I see what the Easter Bunny brought me this year.

well ed, first of all welcome......i go to playa for about 9-10 weeks a year, i am from canada and work seasonal 2 jobs....so i have the winters off.....as you know things are beginning to get alot more expensive than 3 years ago...the dollar certainly helps, but do you really need to own a place down there now at your age? are you full retired yet.......there is alot of questions to be answered.....big decisions
