What is wrong with parents today

How can a parent not know their child is this mentally screwed up at 9 years old? What type of environment produces a 9 year old capable of plotting to hurt another human with weapons instead of spitballs? I just don't get it and I personally think the parents are the root of this problem because those kids had to get it somewhere...

Thoughts..

Nine-year-olds plotted to tie up, hurt teacher

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Nine-year-olds at a school in the U.S. state of Georgia brought a broken steak knife, handcuffs and electrical tape to school in a plot to injure their teacher, authorities said on Tuesday.
Teachers at Center Elementary School in Waycross, Georgia, uncovered the plot on Friday when a pupil reported that a child in the third grade had brought a weapon into the school.
"The plan was to handcuff the teacher, put tape over her mouth and hit her over the head with the paperweight and possibly cut her," said Lt. Duane Caswell of Waycross police, adding that some students said the knife was simply there to cut the tape.
"It was a rather elaborate scheme for children of that age," he said.
The students spent a week planning the attack and planned to carry it out on the day they were caught, Caswell said.
Nine pupils in the grade, most of whom were 9 years old, have been disciplined and some were given long-term suspensions, said Theresa Martin, spokeswoman for the Ware County school district in the southeastern part of the state.
Caswell said police were also planning to charge three of the children in the juvenile court system with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on a school property.

Of course! It was the evil teacher that would not dicipline the child...thats right. I keep forgetting it is never the parents fault because kids do what they want anyways, even 9 year olds...

I'll bet that these kids were allowed to watch a family guy and the antics of Stewie.

Violence on TV is certainly nothing new- I wonder how many kids tried to drop an anvil (or large rock since that was probably easier to find...) on their little brother after watching Loony Toons?

I don't know why there are so many more violent events associated with kids now. Certainly some of it is the parents' fault- but bad parents aren't anything new, either. Perhaps, the wider media coverage of these events makes them seem more prevalent than they are? Or maybe the perceived celebrity status that these kids get from the media make it seem more "cool" to carry out a violent plot? Maybe there are just more mentally unstable children out there these days...

Who knows what the reason(s) is/are. It is always tragic to see unnecessary violence. It just breaks my heart even more when kids are involved.....at least no one was actually hurt in this story.....

I'd like to hear what the kids have to say... why they thought it was "cool" if that is what it is; where they got the idea... I heard some of the kids thought it was just a joke... ha ha, here's a plan to hurt a teacher, but not reeeeally...

I had a friend whose son almost cost his sister her eye by doing that Moe thing with the two fingers in the eyes... father and son were having a merry old time watching a 3 Stooges marathon... freakin' Stooge influence...

That is a big one, I think too. It's certainly nothing newA nd there is simply more people today- more people = more events.

And people are much more sensitive to the smallest utterance or any odd thing happening, and more likely to report them.

This sounds pretty freaking scary though- NINE of them were plotting it? Got to be exaggerated. Hope it is.

from what I heard, there were 3 that were "ringleader" types (in 3rd grade) and a few more really on board (probably the rest of the 9)... and some scragglers bringing things they were told to bring... but most of the class thinking it was just a joke... although supposedly it was all plotted out on paper...

I guess this is the downside to all of those group projects that kids are working in... from 1st grade on... maybe Lord of the Flies wasn't too far off the mark...

My experience with kids that age is that they have VERY active imaginations and like to plan really elaborate schemes- one kid kinda feeds off another, ya know? I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the entire thing was a joke that just got carried too far. Kinda like a game of chicken gone wrong......

I have a hard time imagining a group of 9 years olds actually attacking a teacher..... although I'm aware that it is not out of the realm of reality.

I think a better question is whats wrong with kids....some of them have bad parents who never bother to teach them the right way to behave. i think a lot of parents ignore what their chiildren are watching( most "kiids" programing iis so full of rude and bad behavior) then the obvious viiolence in Viideo games. None of it is new what is is that no one is taking the time to talk to these kids. Oh yeah and yes there is a issue with parents behaviors....they treat others badly and show their kids that s acceptable. With cell phones, computers and a greater lack of superviisioin kiids are now able to plan more elaborate schemes without parents knowledge....what ever the ultimate scheme is.

This one pissed me off>
Delta Colorado. High school teacher gave his students permission to beat a classmate who was late for class. If you are late for class, teacher makes you do push ups and sit ups in a certain amount of time. Kid could not complete. Kids classmates volunteered to administer alternative punishment ...being allowed to punch him..teacher agreed. 10-15 kids punched him. Teacher let go.. Can't wait for that lawsuit! Pretty sure parents are already blaming the school.

Well I'd hope they'd blame the school... the teacher being part of the school... what an idiot...
