AARP - Is it worth it??

Wow... I've barely gotten used to the fact that the big FIVE OH is hitting me in July, and today I received my "join AARP" solicitation in the mail.

Are there any peeps who have joined and can give an opinion on whether or not the fees are worth the benefits you get??

If you're too vain to post about it and admit your age, feel free to drop me a PM.

I've been a member for years now. I feel that the cost in minimal ~ something like $27 for 5 or so years? I get 2 interesting publictions a month and have also used the AARP discounts for hotels and car rentals.

It depends. I pay it, though my mother gave my older brother and I are inaugural memberships for our 50th birthdays

Kevin's a member and I have my own card. I think it's great. Tappy, did you read that Jamie Lee Curtis story? I just read it yesterday. I think she's beautiful and I love the way she's embracing life, but I must admit, I think I'd have to color my hair

Love the Jessica Tandy story though.

They keep sending me their applications for membership and I keep throwing them away! I'm having a hard time with this whole "50" thing Not sure I'm ready to join AARP, even though the discounts would be nice.

Forgot to mention that we have our homeowner's insurance, flood insurance, and automobile insurance with The Hartford (an old, reputable company) through AARP. According to the literature, they will not cancel you ~ which is a BIG deal here in Florida with homeowner's insurance because of all the hurricane claims.

Is it ever worth it to own up to your real age?

I don't have ANY problems with admitting that I'm 61.

In all honesty, I keep meaning to sign up. I keep getting the flyers back in Ohio and saving them, intending to do it, but... I just haven't. Maybe I can't. I DO love a good discount though!

You are but one of the hot 60 year olds I know either in real life or via the internets.

I would not have written that a decade ago, when I was a young whippersnapper of 46
