DaddyB, just where did you find that quote there? I'm guessing you pulled it out of your backside just like all of your other quotes. Pretty weak my friend, pretty weak. Enjoy the movie.

Yes, I'm a veritable cornucopia of quotes...

I'll let others decide who's so scared of the truth as to hold on to flotsam for dear life.

UGA, have you seen the film yet?

I just checked listings and it's playing here. From the NYT's review:

Quote:
One of the sleaziest documentaries to arrive in a very long time, “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” is a conspiracy-theory rant masquerading as investigative inquiry.

A helpful blogger has excerpted and provided links to reviews of the film:

Christian website: Atheist scientists aren't bad fellows after all. "Expelled" producers & writers are full of mierda de toro.

Quote:
In Reasons To Believe's interaction with professional scientists, scientific institutions, universities, and publishers of scientific journals we have encountered no significant evidence of censorship, blackballing, or disrespect. As we have persisted in publicly presenting our testable creation model in the context of the scientific method, we have witnessed an increasing openness on the part of unbelieving scientists to offer their honest and respectful critique.

How interesting all of the folks who signed that are closely allied with creationism and the Christian right

What an odd coincidence that since they are paid speakers for the group they are defending they agree with the film:

I asked my GFs who are elementary school teachers last night...they hadn't even heard of this movie....they also didn't know who Ben Stein was. (Until I reminded them of his role in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.)

When I told them what the movie was about there was much eye rolling and scoffing.

Yup, I don't think it's going to be too popular outside the US, and then only in certain groups. It will mostly be a 'preaching to the choir' type of thing, I think.

No Mellidee, it just came out today. I plan to see it this weekend though. Here are a couple of quotes from the Atlanta newspaper today.. Atlanta Journal - Constituion. Joseph Farah from the Washington Times "Imagine what Michael Moore might produce if we forcibly administered truth serum to him. That would be "Expelled". Rush Limbaugh - "It is powerful. It is fabulous." But beleive me, I don't think for one minute that anyone who particpates in the thread (pro evolution) to find a good article or write up. These people will pull out ever negative report they can find rather than take the time to go see the movie for themselves and make an intelligent report about the movie. So very typical and exactly why this film was produced.

With reviews like this from Pro-Creationism websites, it's going to be tough to find good reviews elsewhere.

Remember how the Nazis' belt buckles said "Punctuated Equillibrium Mitt Uns"?

Hmm....And let us look at what kind of nonsense Rush Limbaugh (no friend of deep or rational thought by any means) has to say:

Quote:
Ben Stein has a new movie out. He brought it by my house Friday afternoon to screen it for me. It's called Expelled. It is powerful. It is fabulous. And here's the premise of his movie. The premise is that Darwinism has taken root, taken hold at every major intellectual institution around the world in Western Society, from Great Britain to the United States, you name it. Darwinism, of course, does not permit for the existence of a supreme being, a higher power, or a God. His interviews with some of the professors who espouse Darwinism are literally shocking. The condescension and the arrogance these people have, they will readily admit that Darwinism and evolution do not explain how life began. One of these professors said it might have been that a hyper-intelligence from another planet came here and started our race. This from some professor either in the UK, I forget where it was, but can't be God. These people are so threatened by the existence of God, they will not permit intelligent design to be discussed. Professors have been fired, blackballed, and prevented from working who have deigned to try to combine the whole concept of evolution with intelligent design.

Ben Stein's new movie is going to open to a thousand screens pretty soon, it's not out there yet. It's called Expelled. But the point of it is that these people on the left are just scared to death of God. It threatens everything. We, on the other hand, recognize that our greatness, who we are, our potential, our ambition, our desire, comes from God, and as part of our Creation, this natural yearning to be free and to practice liberty. That is how we think this country came to be great. It is how we think this country will continue to be great and to grow.

How very insulting equating all people who believe in rational science with Nazis.

But then, you do have great propagandists like the crypto-fascist Limbaugh.

Edit I did a disservice to Limbaugh by calling him a crypto-fascist. I was merely trying to use a word of the week. Limbaugh hides nothing he is just a straight forward fascist.

I was not actively looking for bad reviews; rather for ones which come from sources with no agenda (pro-evolution or otherwise). I'll be interested to see how mainstream entertainment magazines like People or Entertainment Weekly might treat the film.

Oh well, if Rush Limbaugh says it is, then for SURE it's gotta be truthful and factual. 'Cause he is so known for his fairness and balance after all.

*heavy sarcasm*

And THIS guy, Joseph Farah is 'from The Washington Times' newspaper?

I don't think so, UGA.

All I could find was he writes for some rag called the 'World Net Daily News'.

Wikipedia calls him an 'Evangelical American Christian journalist'...also very fair and balanced I am sure. AND he is a buddy of Rush.

When I see a positive review from a respected mainstream magazine or newspaper, I will ...well, I won't hold my breath.

Juanito- are you for real or are you being tongue in cheek with that Nazi statement? I find it hard to believe anyone remotely reasonable would really equate nazism with people who accept evolution is correct.

Ris I find it comical that you find it necessary to research every single comment I make. Very funny. Kind of flattering too.... :-)
